On the train returning to town this morning, she looks out the window and says "Ooh, I didn't know there were some new houses over there", pointing at a fairly new development at the end of town.

Didn't have the heart to tell her it's where our house is...
Close the thread. Not as funny as a lot of them but this is a golden example.

In a very basic and probably inadequate form, these days, it is.
Really? Thats interesting. I past my test in 91 so a lot has changed since then.
My daughter knows how to check oil, water, tyre depths and how to change a wheel. She's 16 and not been behind the wheel yet. I'd feel like I'd failed her in a way if I sent her off out in a car she had no clue about and unable to help herself out of basic situations. Yes, she can call the AA or whatever, but in a situation like described above where she's in the middle of nowhere with no signal to know she can sort her wheel and carry on her journey isn't a bad feeling at all.
Yes its called "show me, tell me" it was introduced in 2003/2004 (I just missed having to do it) the examiner asks you basic things like how you would check the tyre pressures, how you would check the brake lights etc work, where the spare wheel and jack are (if the car has one), where the dipstick etc. but you don't actually have to do any of it just say you know how.

She went on to explain that she was unsure how all the items would go back in.

IE, Bath and toilet.

But I assume that kinda took the funny away but maybe I was wrong.

Could be a valid concern......If I did that in the bathroom in our flat - the bath wouldn't fit.

I'd also be concerned about the new tiles falling off - will the tile adhesive key properly to old tiles.........sounds a bit too "Changing Rooms" to me.

Seemingly if they are up there good and solid then it's a perfectly good base to use I am told.

Problem with a lot of properties is you'd need to re-skim the whole ex-tiled area as the plaster would get pulled off as well.

If we're including clients I could post all day.

This reminds me of replacing a cracked fused spur switch for a boiler, swapped out the supplied 13 amp fuse for the correctly rated 3 amp in the old switch and the silly bint started scolding me about depriving her of "her" new fuse!

For starters, it was in honour of his Dad.

For another thing, it was a nice gesture and actually a rather decent shade of pink.

If you're going to shame your wife on Pistonheads, at least get your facts straight!

The whole "Pink for Papa" thing has actually been raising funds and awareness for the Henry Surtees Foundation but in memory of John Button (who was a close friend of John Surtees). To date The HSF have financed the pilot "Blood on Board" project for Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance, made large contributions to Headway in West Kent, and are now working with other Air Ambulance Charities to roll out the blood on board project nationwide. In the first year of service just under 100 transfusions were carried out at scene on the most critically injured patients, most of whom would not have survived the trip to hospital and are now classed as unexpected survivors. The largest category of patients being from road traffic collisions, but also from many other trauma types. It is fair to say that each year the work of the HSF steered by John and the other Trustees is directly and actively saving lives within the motoring/motorcycling communities.

It's not a "Cancer Charity" it's a genuine petrolheads charity that any one of us could find ourselves needing at any time.

Steady on Tiger. He may have got the hat-bit wrong, but his 'classic' was the bit he put in quotation marks.

And the doors probably won't fit and they will be a nightmare to rip up in the future. If I were her I'd be asking a lot more questions and looking for someone to do a proper job.

Fair do's, I only stuck it on there as a quick afterthought edit because as I posted I thought not everyone would be following the F1!
