I'd have to ask Richard Dawkins on that one. We have the ability to swim from birth, is that an inbuilt skill left over from our evolutionary history? Could well be. She may be spot on.

People who can't swim just didn't use the skill early enough, and then developed a fear that then hampered them.
When a baby swims, it's more of a crawling motion, not swimming
I wouldn't expect a newborn to do butterfly!

It's not drowning, that's the point. It's moving about in the water quite happily without touching the bottom. That's swimming.

Swimming is defined as "propelling the body through water using the limbs...." so regardless of what the limb motion may resemble - if that motion propels the body through water - it is swimming by definition.

Talking about evolution,

Her: so if we evolved from fish, is that why we can swim?
Pity we didn't evolve from birds then. :S

"I was watching the other side"

Doesn't sound too silly on it's own, but when you take in to account "the other side" was the side of her car where there were no obstructions for 10 yards, while the side she wasn't watching was about 2 feet away from my car, you'll understand why I now need to get dents repaired in both cars! furious

Yesterday my missus was convinced Florida was in South America as it is in the south part of the USA. Couldn't grasp that the USA and Canada where North America and Brazil etc were South America. I gave up trying to explain!
NA goes all the way to Panama.
You could probably make her brain explode if you told her that Panama,Costa Rica etc, are in Central America. biggrin

Which is the southern part of North America...eek

talking to SWMBO about realistic cars for £30k I mentioned that mumsnet would have a different idea on the perfect vehicle to Pistonheads.
Her response "oh yes, I'd think they'd be looking at MP3s"

Well it is. I'm not aware that the moon has a fluctuation in it's speed of travel at all?
She never said it was moving faster than usual, she just said it was moving fast. And it is. It's moving fast around the Earth while we move fast around the sun which moves fast around the milky war which moves fast around the cosmos. She's a genius.
Fast compared to other moons?
That's no moon.

My mother rather than my Mrs. She's seen a story in the news this morning she thought I'd be interested in, so rather than emailing me a link she's emailed me a screenshot of her ipad with the story on screen biggrin

That takes thought and skill! Unless the "screenshot" was taken as a photograph with her iPhone and uploaded to the iPad first!

"If I turned the heating up to like, 30, how warm would it get in here?"
That's reminded me.

The other halfs mother used to take me home after being there for dinner or what ever. It'd be mid winter, only a few degrees and she'd get into the car and chuck the temp up to it's highest, and put the fan on max. The engine was stone cold, so I sat in the car having cold air blown at me for the journey. By the time I got dropped off, it was only getting warm, for her drive back.

Never said anything, but it was annoying.

It's a woman thing. Thermostats and the like have only two settings so far as they are concerned - full on or full off.

Car interior vents are often fully closed, too. Even in winter, as they "cause a draught" (when starting off). They then stay fully closed for the rest of the journey . . .
