An interesting, but little known fact, is that steel is recovered from there as it pre-dates the nuclear age so can be used in applications that require those particualr properties. It's used for whole body monitoring systems IIRC.
The One Show this evening. A similar comment was made about the surrendered U-Boats sunk off Northern Ireland at the end of WW2. Didn't follow all of it as there was also a comment that the subs couldn't be recovered unless all the Allied Powers agreed. Can't see why they'd be bothered though. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
PH and 28 days later had a wee forum war a couple of years ago because POD dared to have a look around some tunnels

I've heard a story saying it's been there since the 1970s. Can anyone confirm this? Not sure if this is in keeping with the rest of the thread, but...
23/24 Leinster Gardens near Paddington. Two houses knocked down back in the 1800s to make way for the circle/district line tunnel that passes beneath/behind them. They kept the facade of the houses though to not spoil the appearance of the street. Note the painted on windows! Still there today, I drove past and stopped a few weeks back.
Not my pics as I'm not near my home PC, hence stolen from here

I love stuff like this!
By the way, the pics earlier in the thread of places like Dungeness, can you just drive there and wander round or do you have to be shown round?

I have always been interested in doing this, how do you get involved? or is it just a matter of getting off your ass and doing it (and hoping that the 28days mod don't VBRJ me for trying?)
Pretty much, use 28DL as inspiration, they wont tell you access points as part of UEing is doing the ground work yourself. Don't be over ambitious on your first one. You don't have to be an amazing photographer but if you want to report your visit at least make sure they are in focus. Think about what you going to take before hand, ie will you need a torch etc. If you go alone make sure someone knows where you are. Edited by Kit80 on Sunday 31st January 13:04

I watched a program about trains/machines (think it might be the one Chriss Barrie presents) a few years ago and it showed that fake house in london! Reminds me of some blokes from my school who found a tunnel leading from the old staff room to a bunker below the music school at the other end of the school field. Apparently built during the summer holidays in 1940, there are pics somewhere if I can find them.
That would be good to see! There must be lots of tunnels around that people dont even know about. I seen a website a few years ago saying there were tunnels all over glasgow all linked up.Celt said:

Way in via hole in the floor of the staffroom.
A different way in on the school field.
Underneath the music school.
Tunnel that leads over 300 yards across the school field between music school and main building.
Into a boiler room.
Boiler is for main school and swimming pool heating.
Chimney running from boiler room all the way up to...
The top of the school!
