That's freaky. They don't look the heathiest of fish. i guess lack of food. Also i imagine they're no good for eating, else they'd have been netted out by now by the locals.
The fish were put there to control the amount of mosquitos that were spawning in the water, something like 3000 fish were dumped in although I'm not sure how long ago that was done
I think they all look pale due to lack of sunlight, I have often wondered how much food there is to sustain a population that size assuming they have cleaned up all of the mosquitos, obviously some of the fish will spawn and most of the young will be eaten but that wouldn't be enough food to feed all of those fish, maybe people go feed them
They were cleared out a few years ago now anyway if I remember correctly

Cool locations but the editing on the photos is laughable, those pictures are about as far removed from the originals as is humanly possible, One of the main reasons I stopped posting on urban exploring forums was everyones sudden over use of HDR and how crap it makes all of the pictures look, there is more than enough drama in these places without cartooning the images up(Yes my photos above appear flat compared to those on the link but mine are straight from the camera(personal preference I guess))
Apologies if posted or seen before but this is on the BBC website today:

Another interesting set of pictures ruined by heavy over-processing, what is it with UrbExers and HDR?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-34575019
Photos (26) of former Swiss bunkers.

Most were made to look like ordinary non-military buildings.

Still, a great set of pictures though.

Exactly the same here, it is a great trip!
It is, even more interesting trying to climb up the jetty with what I later learned was a fractured elbow sustained after falling into a stream near Mt Cook This is at the other end of the country, the old Norwegian whaling base on Stewart Island,
