Rather appropriate, URL is pretty self-explanatory.

Apparently there was loads of cool stuff in the tunnels underneath the factory. I have a friend who was employed to basically concrete rooms full of parts, machinery and indeed cars after the factory had closed. With some of the rooms they were allowed to see what was inside, others they were told 'knock a couple of bricks out of that wall and fill it that way'. The cars he did get to see included an original Mini and a Metro 6R4 both in showroom condition.

A few pictures from last week when we visited Jerome Ghost town in Arizona. Best £4 I have spent in years! Great to sit on the porch and watch the humming birds feeding! Not so great to be startled by a rattle snake on the path!

A few pictures of Chernobyl by Victoria Ivleva, to commemorate the 31th anniversary of the disaster. Those are not tourist photos, she's actually been inside the destroyed 4th energy block in 1990, so that scenery has been seen by a few alive. The trivia is in Russian, but google translate is your friend.

she has done some documentary work too. one of the few people allowed to get right into the interesting bits - it really is a fascinating place to visit.

You want to go there, then. When I went, I was there for about 20 minutes before I realised that there was no sound other than your own footsteps and those of other people to be heard, maybe a little conversation.

When you come out, you start to hear the birds singing again. I kid you not.
Just caught up with this thread, fascinating. We went to Oradour a couple of years ago, found it almost by chance. You visit with a mix of awe and horror. A real monument to how evil man can be.

Just saw these pictures now, interesting. Is that the tractor that started the fire?

I saw that the other day. I wasn't certain exactly how "real" that is... if it is, incredibly impressive stuff!

Ah I didn't read the rest of this thread. The photos got shared on Facebook but I was worried that it may have been a bit cobbled together etc, though this looks much better now. Very cool indeed

dont suppose you had constantine as your guide? he's a really funny guy. we went with them last year, back again in a few months with a different group. was it weird not seeing the original reactor 4? just the huge shiny dome.
