There's a big forest near me that's on private land but not too difficult to get on (no houses/security or offices nearby). It's at the back of a disused war time runway and apparently inside this forest are still bomb shelters. I'm positively buzzing with excitement about trying to get in there. No one has got any pictures of inside yet. I just need the weather to buck up its ideas. I'll keep you chaps posted. Is that near the "market"

Is it really as amazing as I read about and still that large? Could do some photos - didn't think anyone would be that interested, there seems to be quite a few online already. (And I forgot my camera so they're all 'phone pics - not too bad though) It is amazing and it is very big, and Burlington is only a small part of what's down there. Highlights - many, but maybe the BBC studio, the telephone exchange, the library and the huge split level dining hall with circa-1960s coffee machines, immaculate and unused, filter papers next to them, just sat waiting for the coffee order that'll never come. Oh, and the stores - the piles and piles and piles of Government stores just sat there, rotting.

wow, burlington is huge! - over 60 miles of tunnels. their main site gives an interesting map overlay on this page: http://www.burlingtonbunker.co.uk/maps/gives you an idea of scale. looks very secure though.

'Done to death' to a certain extent in online forums etc but has to be amongst the top places to visit. Was it burlington where the lads from 28dl got the electric cart running and drove round on it? It was on youtube and in the news as well

So if there was some sort of incident these days, where would the government go? I guess there must still be a bunker they can use which is prepared and ready? If so, is it known about? Or is it as secret as many of these decommissioned facilities were in the past?

I imagine ones they've subsequently built on the secret that no one now knows about except for the Chinese and Russian spies.

They'd need a pretty big bunker since ole Cleggy would insist that EVERYONE was included (all 62 million).
