Good luck with the meeting, you will soon have the knocks off pat. And 5 more seasons to the chair!

Just sent a message to UGLE. I'll see what response I get.

In Berkshire, near Maidenhead, if a local lodge wants to contact me.

Thanks
Mike

Mike, what are you looking for? PM me, I am in a Windsor lodge.

Or check out here http://www.berkspgl.org.uk/grand-lodge-berkshire/3...

Sadly you missed the open day at Sindlesham which was tonight. If you want to talk more let me know.

Serious question.

I always thought that a belief in a 'supreme being' was one of the basic tenets of freemasonry?

Thanks Fer, I'll be doing two seasons as IG due to my uncle jumping in front of me next year. He was SW last year but due to work commitments had to step down, he's starting again as JD next year. I don't mind tbh as it allows me to learn more smile

That's better. Are you a Berkshire lodge, or Bucks? (Seeing if I will get an invite, or if I have to ask for one. : o ) )

And before we start a bidding war, I directed Mike to Sindlesham for more information. If he is interested in Windsor, I am happy to answer all the questions I can, but I know the proximity of LoI is important for anyone who hopes to get the full experience from a lodge.

Mike, you now have three people who can offer you additional information. Perhaps we can nominate a pub somewhere and have a chat. I would suggest the Fifield Inn, in Fifield, but if you we can find somewhere central, you might get us all along for a beer/chat. (Did I mention beer?)

We're a bucks lodge.

You're welcome to come along whenever you like. I can't make out December meeting, but if you'd like to come and see me invested as SW in feb, it'd be a pleasure having you, along with any of the other masons on PH. Off the top of my head, it'll be 1st Feb.

PM me if you'd like to come smile

Fer,
My message was slightly tongue in cheek, but as we are down to 12 active members we do need some new blood. As long as Mike gets into a lodge, thats the main thing.Perhaps we could all go to the initiation?

It is but there is no definition of what that is. For example, you may be a observant Catholic / Jew / Muslim / any other faith, which means you have a very clear idea of what that is. My view of it is somewhat different but freemasonry cares not a jot as long as you can say in all honesty that you believe there is a supreme being. You may define that pretty much as you wish as Masonry is not in any way a religion nor does it in any way seek to change, enquire, adjust, examine or question your personal or religious beliefs beyond your ability to say that you believe in some kind of supreme being. Masonry simply could not care less what faith you hold, how observant or otherwise you may be any more than it cares about your nationality, background, skin colour or anything else as long as you are a basically good chap! I could answer at more length but I think that pretty much covers it although if any of the Brethren on here can offer a better explanation, I shall be utterly un-offended.

For what it is worth, in my lodge we have Muslims, Christians of various denominations, Jews and a couple of people who would say they have no formal faith at all. None of us are terribly observant in our own faiths but I do know at least one Rabbi, one Vicar and a couple of pretty observant Muslims personally who are all Masons and it simply is not a factor other than enjoying the company of a diverse and interesting bunch of people.

As a devout atheist that's me out then! I've been asked a couple of times but I've never been one for clubs or associations of any sort. A friend who's a mason enjoys it though. Perhaps I'm a miserable git smile

LOL - clearly :-P

I love it and I think that we as an organisation do a lot of good in terms of the huge amounts we generate for charity as well as enjoying the fact that it is totally non-judgemental on race, colour, jobs etc but it is not for everyone of course. No reason to stop reading the thread and asking questions though should you want to, most Masons I know are happy to talk about it to both Masons and non-Masons alike. Only issue I have is with people who still spout the old "Satinists" or "running the world" stuff. If we were running the world I assure you a lot more Masons would be tooling about in way cooler cars than they do :-P (do I get points for making a very slightly car related points here?!)

I am also a devout(some would say militant) athiest, but in my mind I could justify the laws of nature as a supreme being.....

Until the made me chaplain without consulting me, I had to leave then...
