here's a question: a director at the company I work for has just been finished for serious financial fraud.

he is as slippery as an eel and in all work/professional circles will pass off his leaving as "something else".

He is a freemason.

How does such a society treat someone who is a fraud, a cheat, a liar and a general bad egg ?

It should be brought to the attention of his provincial office, no more. It is for them to handle.

Interesting reading but I haven't got a fking clue about the acronyms and stuff you're all talking about! For a lay-person, why is it hard work? I understand my profession (engineers) are traditionally found in masonic circles, but I've not got a clue what you do. Is it a religious organisation? Is it actually secret? If you see someone from your meetings in the street, are you allowed to acknowledge that you're both masons?

(Genuine questions btw, I've not got much of a clue about it - surprised so many people from on here are a part of it!)
Go to the UGLE website.

Look at "What is Freemasonry".

so what next ? google his branch and write them a note ???

what would actually happen ? would they kick out such a character ?

to my mind such an organisation would surely only allow people with squeaky clean lives to be part of their club, or am I waaaaaaaayyyyyyy off the mark here !

The FM that asked me all those years ago said this:

'you have to believe in a god/religion of sort, if you're ever in difficulties (interpret that however you may) your lodge FM's help out'

I have no religious affiliations what so ever, so I declined.
I did/do wonder what the 'help out' means though, , fix your roof? spare some cash? wash your car?

If the company consider it serious enough for criminal proceedings and he is found guilty he will be expelled. However word may get around within masonic circles and he could well be 'persuaded' to resign

Yesterday went pretty much perfectly and I am now WM, quite an eye opening day, but very rewarding for me. Can only remember needing to be prompted twice whilst closing and investing the officers. Dad just about held it together.

Third coming up in March, so the hard work really begins.

Full credit to you. That is a lot of memorising! Having been a S for two years I'm moving up to JD in April and my brain is hurting from the few lines I need to remember. It's really frustrating after finding it easy learning lines at school. I guess that was, ahem, a few years ago now though.

Had to look twice at the pic Of W/Bro Paul. Not in the Berkshire Province to my knowledge.Any idea of His Mother?

Thurs did a double second. The VGO said it was the first time he as seen two variations of the degree in the same evening, neither like the book!! I did point out the last time i did it was 20 years ago and claim old age as an excuse.
Still its either a 2nd or a 3rd in April and if a third it will be the agricultural working ( Farming everyting out)
I have no qualms on doing that, first time around, you were expected to do all three ceremonies on your own. I did and felt like i earned the PM Jewel. some of the newer brethren, are,a bit lacking, in fact a couple couldnt even invest the officers. and then kept up to their low standard by bottling out of installin their successor. how they can wear the Provicial rank without a twinge of oncious i do not know
. I am doing my best to get the new intake to get back to how it was. Tradition is everything

I've read a lot about the effort required to recite accurately and the amount of homework required to be proficient. Are you not allowed cue cards?

Cheers, it is very tough going, and install got a lot to do to get it.

Interesting to see Paul Daniels is on the square, but sad to hear of his condition.

No cue cards are allowed BTW, lol.

Any of the PH brethren off to grand lodge on 3rd march for the inset and meeting?

Great News Moose

I have been to Chelsea a couple of times. He hasnt been master there ( see their Website)

Not so much cue cards but it is personal satisfaction to do the ceremony withour recourse to the book. Actually the two seconds went ok considering. It was a bit rough day my wife had got Shingles that day and i thought i might have to have the dog put down as well.
Apart from the general charity giving and meeting people from all walks of life, it is the fact that what has been done in my lodge has not altered in principle since its inception in 1884. And as we are a 'winter lodge' i sometimes think back to those guys going to the meetings in gas lit streets and following in their footsteps. Of course there are lodges much older, plus it is part of the 'fun' to visit other lodges not only in your province ,but further afield to see how they do their 'workings' It is that alone that makes freemasonry so enjoyable, and long may the differences continue. I have often said that if Grand Lodge decreed that we should work to a standardised working, thats when i would resign
