We didnt do the shuttle launch, which would have been interesting, but we stopped lessons so we could all be bored and watch the recovery of some rotten lump of wood from the bottom of the channel...

I think they spiced it up with the breaking rig thing on purpose.

I posted it last night Dave but don't worry biggrin The awesomeness of this thread means no one cares wink

This is the first thread that my missus has with and read without getting bored and walking off! I think she has said "no way, I had one of those" at least 20 times so far...

I used to repair those, and the 9512 and it's successor. Dixons sold millions of them.

Very popular and it was amazing what peripherals were available for them. I'm pretty sure the first scanner I ever saw in the flesh so to speak was plugged into one of these.

Also, to work on them, after you took the back off you had to discharge the CRT. Many a customer ran from the room when it sparked!!

I always thought these were a '70s invention but on a recent visit to Hopetown House they've got a reeeeaaaally old one. Don't know how old exactly, but it looks antique'ish'.

I've always wanted one of these - Siku Mega-Lifter:

They still make them, but I keep talking myself out of buying one, reminding myself that I'm an adult. However, I now have a son and the excuse I need.

You youngsters biglaugh

I remember sitting in front of my primary school's only TV (wheeled in on a trolley specially by one of the nuns) so we could all watch the first flight of Concorde.

IIRC, all of us boys were suddenly supersonic planes in the playground afterwards, instead of the usual Spitfires & Me109s - the difference being that you put your arms out behind you and made wooshing noises! laugh

Ah, them was the days.

Originally born out of the domino-toppling-world-record craze of the late 80s - as seen, ad nauseam, on Blue Peter etc.

I never had 'Domino Rally', had to make do with the ten or so sets of dominos my parents had collected over the course of their marriage. (Weird really as we never once played dominos......)

I really wanted one of these when I was very young:

Thank God I never got one, as fk knows what I thought I was going to do with it.
I think I considered that it would be cool to have a PC in my pocket.

I was wrong.
