Do You Know Anybody That Has Killed Another Person?
Discussion
A very interesting thread, just read this from start to finish. Hitch hiker story from the first couple of pages was really eye opening.
I don't know anyone who has deliberately killed somebody, however I know three that have killed in vehicles - one entirely his fault and hit a pedestrian, one head on with another car which wasn't his fault and another in a stolen car and killed one of his passengers.

My dad hit a ped on his motorbike. She was crossing at an ill advised place (in fact had circumnavigated railings there to prevent crossing) and he got a 5 year ban. Judge went on public record a year later stating he hated bikers and did everything he could to ban them. Dad a appealed and got his licence back.
This all happened long ago before we were on the scene but reading this thread, mad as it sounds, it's only really just occurred to me how much that probably affected him psychologically and probably explains a few things about my childhood.
Another guy I was working with doesn't drive (which is inconvenient to say the least in his line of work) and when I asked why, slipped into this "other personality"... he was calm but it was part of his subconscious or something speaking and not the regular guy "you think you're just having some fun, dont you, just a joyride. you don't think you going to kill someone, do you? you don't mean for that. then you have to live with it, don't you. was just meant to be a bit of fun"

My ex-girlfriend's brother spent time for causing death by dangerous dangerous driving. When I met her he was in prison and I didn't judge him at all for what had happened - I've always maintained it's the same crime as dangerous driving (his passenger died) and he was unlucky to be in prison.
Turns out he'd written off 7 cars before the accident and was a complete prick. Like genuinely the most unpleasant, rude, selfish person I've ever had the displeasure to meet.
Within a couple of months of getting out of prison he was behind a wheel (no licence or insurance) driving back from the pub when he was barely able to walk.
Left me in a very difficult situation (and my girlfriend, who hated him). My head told me that I had a moral duty to phone the police and report him, ensuring he went back to prison and didn't kill anyone else. Unfortunately we both knew it would absolutely destroy her Mum if he were to go back into prison, not just that she'd be upset, but that she literally wouldn't be able to cope mentally at all, at best I think she'd have had a full-scale breakdown, at worst, well...
Luckily he hasn't had another accident (well, I don't know about now, haven't seen the family for a year) but I don't know how I'd have lived with myself if he had.
My old post, not sure why I didn't mention 2 more. My Grandad killed a pedestrian. Hit him whilst on his motorbike long before I was born. He never talks about it and nor does anyone else - in fact. It's so unmentioned I might even be wrong, I heard about it when I was very young and I've never asked anyone about it since.Turns out he'd written off 7 cars before the accident and was a complete prick. I also went to school with a girl who stabbed her boyfriend. He came home drunk, held a knife to her crying baby and said it had better shut the fk up or he would stab it. Some sort of fight ensued and she ended up stabbing him. Released without charge in the end: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2067654/Wo...
An aquaintance was the LWEM on duty when the Conquerer sank the Belgrano, he pressed the button that released the MkVIII's that resulted in 323 souls going to the bottom.
He was remarkably relaxed about it all, 'my job that day'.....I suspect that now he would be encouraged to seek counceling and talk about it.

When I was a kid, another slightly older kid killed another much younger kid.
I'll not go into this in too much detail, but I was "interviewed" - twice - by the police on that one. Memories are vague, but one "interview" was on a doorstep by general plod, then a second in my living room with my parents there by two detectives (I guess; certainly non-uniform).
Trouble was, there was so little I was able to say with my parents in the room (I would have been about 12 or 13 at the time). Had they not been there I think I would have been able to help more as there are certain things you don't want your parents knowing, even at that age.

Knew a kid in the late '80s, we were teenagers in the church youth club. Quiet kid, a few years younger than me, was a bit of a wet blanket and not popular with the cool kids but a nice enough guy. I taught him to play chess and we were friends for a while. Ten years or so later, he found his wife in bed with another man and strangled her in front of his kids - Was a complete shock when I heard this about him.

I went to school with one of the lads involved in this story. Horrible.

I know this guy pretty well:

Whist obviously it was a horrific thing to do, I still have a bit of sympathy for him. The deceased was a "colourful character", to say the least.

Fascinating thread, having read it all (over several days, it was a bit much to take in 1 go).
Can't help but think if people could handle alcohol and avoid getting messed up with drugs to such a degree this thread would have been many pages shorter.
My father in law died this year - he emigrated to the UK after the Hungarian uprising in 1956, in which he was a freedom fighter. He became a wrestler and appeared on TV a lot in the 60s/70s. He never spoke about what he had to do in the uprising but the inference was clear enough.

When I heard, it came as no surprise. As a kid he was living on a farm nearby and was properly deranged, and would talk about how he "violated chickens" and forcing rats to eat eachother.
He will be out in 5 years if he keeps his nose clean. When I heard, it came as no surprise. As a kid he was living on a farm nearby and was properly deranged, and would talk about how he "violated chickens" and forcing rats to eat eachother.
The article says "It involved particularly nasty and cynical crimes up to and including the most severe of sexual offences committed against children and young persons."
What the hell has become of the legal system when someone like this can be out in 5 years? Lets hope the guys in there hear of his crimes and make life 'comfy' for him..
I knew of the kid, but I didn't really move in his social group or was in many of his classes, but do recall he was often in the detention class at lunchtime.
Our school was supposed to be one of the better ones in the area too!
never seen this thread before, interesting reading.
This guy was a friend of mine http://www.crewechronicle.co.uk/news/local-news/so...
The night he did it I spent about an hour chatting to him in a nightclub.... he then got a taxi home and strangled his Mum.... I was too drunk to remember what I said to him but I don't think it was a dare or anything

My wife knows more than me in this area.
She works in forensic psychiatry and gets to meet murderers on a daily basis, I have met a few and its hard to reconcile the person you meet who is under a treatment programme and the crimes they have committed. I once had a lovely chat with a chap after dropping off my wife, turns out he ate his grandmother whilst having a psychotic episode.
Her very cute best mate who killed 2 burglars and a car thief in Jo'burg. Apparently she is quite handy with a glock.
All the ones I have known have been in the military and bar for one wouldn't talk about it. My great uncle who served with the Ghurka Rifles, showed me some photos when I announced as a teen that I wanted to sign up, he said I will show you these once and once only and this is what war is like.
Not easy to reconcile my lovely uncle and what he was doing in the pictures, which with hindsight were very ISIS alike.
