Got an old school friend, known him for about 20 years, got in a fight outside the pub once, punched the guy and as he went down he hit his head on the curb. Unfortunately the guy died. Friend spent a few years in prison for manslaughter i think.
To me he has always been a nice lad, as I said we have known each other since we were 5-6 so it hasn't really changed my opinion of him, although a lot of people I know cant quite get there head round our friendship as we now live pretty diffrent lives.

Apart from that I have friend in the Army and Marines, and a few old boy clients who I wouldn't have put it past them either.

I sat next to Louise Woodward at school, who allegedly killed the American kid she was babysitting.

I know a "Security" company which was set up by two blokes I know, one fought and won the "Golden Gloves" and the other had just been released for murdering his business partner!

I can't say I don't have a certain sympathy for this one. Not that you should ever take the law into your own hands kids, etc etc.

How's the husband doing? I can't imagine what he went through.
He went into shock understandably, and was the first to be arrested & accused (standard), which is not nice when you already have to cope with the trauma of finding your wife dying and then losing her.

fking Hell.... I thought it was bad going to employment tribunal to explain I had sacked someone because they were no good at the job, not down to sex, race etc!!
That must have been awful!
It was 19 years ago. I have to say it was the worst thing to ever happen in my life so far (and I've had some st since then as well!).

Yep, think I would have done the same thing.

A close friend of the family was killer by her husband. They'd had an argument he lost his temper, he hit her over the head, then set fire to the house with her still in it (to try and cover it up). He admitted Murder and got 12yrs. He was released early and tried coming back to the area it all happened, where he was basically told he was not welcome as her family and friends were still living in the area. The guy even thought her family would hand back over their child once he was out, not even the courts liked the idea of that and the grandparents got full custody.

He tried making contact with us once he was out, but none of us wanted anything to do with him and still don't.

Dunno about that. (Unless I could do it over the internet where we're all Chuck Norris)

But I'd find it hard to completely condemn someone who did.

About 20 years ago I became friendly with a guy who was not long released from Jail for a manslaughter charge.

In short, he used to do debt collecting, and when a client came at him with a knife one night, he beat the guy to death. CPS confirmed he only hit him 4 or 5 times, but that was enough.

Now is the point where you have to leave your pre conceptions to one side. He wasn't some tattooed thug, he was just a bloke who was into martial arts (thats how I got to know him) and who could handle himself, and was trying to make some money for his family during a recession, hence the debt collecting, done via a registered company, not a loan shark outfit.

Watching him trying to rebuild his life in a dignified manner, from the heart of a dog rough council scheme, with a wife and kid to provide for, was scary. He maintained anyone could be placed in a position where they would do the same as he did.

Despite him being a very nice guy, did it make me look at him differently though?

Yes. But I just don't know why I did, and I'm a bit embarassed to admit that actually.

We were talking one day & the subject of Americans came up, (can't remember what we were talking about exactly) when he calmly said, "Americans, I had to shoot two of them once" I replied half heartedly,"you do know they were on our side don't you?" "er yes" he said "but when I was in Italy me & my commanding officer heard muffled cries coming from a cellar, when we got in there we found two American GIs rapping an Italian girl" me being a bit slow said " oh yeah, what happened?" He calmly replied "well I shot them".
I acknowledge the seriousness of the topic, and I don't normally join the spelling police, but that did make me hehe

Visions of a WW2 gangsta rap scenario....

Or was it some kind of kinky spanking session.....

Sorry. getmecoat
hehe That's ok, I realised that annoying little error myself but I'd already edited the post once & really couldn't be bothered again. I wish that I had now though. smile

Don't get me wrong - I am pacifism personified. Haven't been in a fight since junior school and have actively avoided "trouble" ever since.

But if, as in this example, there was a serious threat against the one, or ones I loved, I would find it hard not to launch a "preemptive strike".

Indeed. It's far beyond the remit of what most people would consider, but then most people don't have to deal with that kind of situation. I suppose it's not really possible to know how you'd react until you're forced to make a decision of that magnatude.

For what it's worth, having met the bloke, he always seemed pleasant enough. He did catch me diddling his daughter once I swear my life flashed before my eyes, but here I am, fully intact!

Kill someone instead of pay them what you owe them?

Is your bank manager aware of this approach? hehe

I didn't realise he'd murdered a taxi driver, I just thought he was a online wker!

Owing someone money is one thing, that someone threatening your beloved is another.

Yes.

I know a bloke who murdered his Landlady a few years ago.
He is very posh and well spoken.
Nice guy, and I have no problems with him at all.

Yep, my Uncle killed a 5yr old by knocking himdown in his car. The kid just ran out infront of him chasing a football across the raod, my Uncle had no chance what so ever to avoid him.

Oh and a boyfriend of a teacher who I did meet, but didn't know well. He went on to kill another teacher at my school who he was apparently having an affair with. Nasty buisness, with him storing the body in a storage box, and setting fire to it.

I interviewed him a few years ago and yeah, felt very odd knowing the tale of his grisly past.
