Things that are great about Britain

The Summer
When it arrives, it is quite simply fantastic. The heat is just right, the appreciation from every single one of us is there. The smells. The office politics of short sleeves and tie or no tie. The simple joy that of a stroll through a park that would have been a slog 2 months before.
Not to mention the build - up... 'Tit Monday'... is it / isn't it... etc
Love this country. Just need another one to live in for 6 months of the year.

When you wake up on a Warm morning and its nice and sunny before you go to work, at lunchtime its boiling hot and everyone is in a good mood .
Club level motorsport, I dont think there are many other countries with the variety and number of events to enter. Not many other countries have the massive number of businesses that work in support of it either.
Cheap cars and motoring.
The ability to make pretty much anything with 2, 3, 4 or more wheels road legal and actually find someone to insure it.
The airshows all summer long.
The history and the museums / castles and the like.
Summer music festivals.
Proximity to the rest of Europe and the seriously cheap travel.

Not having to worry about volcano insurance
You say that but... When was the lest time we had a volcano? Don't you think we're overdue?!I meant it because the castle is built on an "extinct" volcano.
Or is it that other one?

It is actually a lovley place, but its too far north for me.
The fact that you are never more than something like 67 miles from the sea.
It's an incredibly well packaged country ... from the palm trees of south Cornwall to the metropolitan capital, the historic north and the mountains of Wales and Scotland, all in one island that you can drive the full length of in less than 2 days.
And I'd second the one about multi-culturalism. It's not perfect, but we do seem to be able (when we try) to do it better than anyone else? Shame we don't try enough, perhaps.

I would argue that some cultures do not try hard enough and aren't understanding enough to adapt to our culture. It's a shame that a select few try to alienate themselves from "Western" society and give the others bad names. Having lived in Qatar for 8 years, travelled to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Fujairah and other Muslim countries, I have been surrounded by different cultures for a almost half my life. Living in a Muslim country, we were not allowed pork, there were no bars (although canned lager was permitted) and you had to respect their religious holidays for example Ramadan. Over in this country, we seem to be doing the opposite and some people from different cultures argue that we shouldn't celebrate Christmas or have decorations up which may be seen as offensive. Being an atheist, I couldn't care less about Christmas as a religious holiday, I do however enjoy the transformation that occurs at this time. It brightens up an otherwise dull street.
We do need to cater for other cultures but surely not at the expense of our own.

And for a slightly contraversial point. The incredibly multi-cultural society that we are so deeply immersed in.
actually thats a pretty good point, it'd be crap if we were all white British. for me its nice to be be part of a society with a good variety of cultures and backgrounds, it broadens the horizons Art_Vandelay said:

that whole "Winterval" story was proved to be just that - a story, made up by (I believe) right wing press to try to bring censure and ridicule on a left wing council. That fact that the story they made up bore no resemblence to fact was irrelevant to the Waily Hate Mail writers and readers. On the other hand I can see some benefits in splitting the secular shopping / presents / excess festival from the religious one - lets face it, Christmas is celebrated for it's non-religious aspects by far more people than those that celebrate a religious festival?

That's the point - when we do it well, we do it really well. When we do it badly we really do it badly!crofty1984 said:
Right, we've had enough threads on Winky, Chavs, Crime, Eyeliner on men.
I'm moving back to the UK in two weeks. I'm a bit sad to be leaving Italy obviously, as well as being made redundant, losing my flat and the life I've spent the last year and a half building up for myself and am moving back to my parents house with a few guitars and a big TV to my name.
I'm focussing on being happy to be going back home rather than being sad to leave here, so tell me why the UK is amazing!
I'll start:
Cheap cars
Variety of food choice
The countryside (OK not quite the Alps, but it's still beautiful)
A few of my really close friends
Cheap booze
The possibility of eventually having a house with a garage
Club racing
So no mortgage and no responsibilities to cater for then? I'm moving back to the UK in two weeks.
