Things that are great about Britain
Discussion
Summer: A not-very-fast convertible burbling down a country road on a Sunday morning, looking for a spot to picnic for the afternoon.
Autumn: A walk down the avenue in St James' Park as the leaves turn, you wrap up warm and tighten your scarf.
Winter: Standing on the side of wet, windy and muddy rugby pitch, cheering on your local boys and chastisting the visitors, referee and other fans. Then all being best friends in the warm bar afterwards.
Spring: The promise of a long hot summer, and anticipation of young ladies in more revealing attire, seeing the first ice cream van and getting caught in a rainstorm with a stranger.
Disclaimer: Some or all of these things may be highly romanticised and not reflect real life. Your experience may differ.

Went over the Applecross pass for the first time last weekend, fun even in a diesel Fabia estate.

I quite forgot - another great thing about the UK. Beach huts. Where else, other than Wells can you pay £75k for a few pieces of plywood?
Australia. Portsea area in Victoria. Close to $1,000,000AUD (say £450,000) for the rights to rent one from the Council.Edited by TimJMS on Monday 15th February 10:50
I went out earlier and in the sun it was vaguely warm. But there was that fantastic "spring" smell to the air. That sense that this years summer will be nice and warm and full of opportunities to sit in beer gardens and drive down decent backroads with the roof off.
I don't this has been mentioned yet - highlight of my year is the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Looking at all sorts of lovely old and new cars while typhoons fly over head, F1 cars howl past at high speed on Lord March's driveway. Its like a garden party based purely around cars. Plus since they put the prices of the tickets up and you can't buy them at the gates, you get less chav scum turning up than you used - despite Littlehampton being less than 10 miles away.

Varied scenery due to complex geology.
Examples from Cornwall.
Serpentine Scenery
Granite Scenery
Coal Measures Scenery
Devonian Clay Slate Scenery
Mineralised Killas Mining District Scenery
Greenstone Scenery
Slate Scenery
The varied scenery of Cornwall is reflected over the rest of the country. It's probably why the field of geology originated here.
A couple of years ago, I've driven and surfed my tits off around coasts of the world and in the majority, long stretches of them are the same.
Geology is just another example of the richness of Britain.

I've got one. Probably been said already in different ways but I haven't gone through all the posts: if you are in deep st health-wise or financially, there's a reasonably good chance you'll be fine. In many other countries, you'd be dead without a decent set of friends or a loving family.

OK i have been moaning on another thread having just rocked up in the UK for 10 days after a 3 1/2 year absence and there are positive things so to list...
- Bacon Sarnies
- Good Real Ale
- Porkie Scratchings
- British Curry
- People are still generally polite (that one may surprise some)
- Generally good driving standards
- (as a tourist) everythig is dirt cheap due to exchange rate
May come back over the next few days and add to that.

- John Lewis (mum needed a new radio, very refreshing to go to such a professional shop)
However the mobile network is dire, (compaired to back home for me)
My hire car (a boggo Fiat Bravo with hub caps et all) has been keyed 4 times and had bumpers both ends hit, all in 4 days! WTF?!
