If you won the lottery would you go public?

So as a second question, how would you hide the fact you now have stloads of cash? Emigrate? Move away? Live frugally?
I would drive about in something like this, no one will ever see me.Definitely wouldn't tell the world I'd won a rake of cash though, what a stupid idea.

You don't have a choice with the Euromillions, it's part of the Ts & Cs of playing. You can stay anonymous with the regular lotto.
Is that so? That sucks, frankly... Don said:
Personally I think the couple that have just won £56 million have made a grave mistake. Luckily they do have £56 million to shield themselves from it - and, no doubt, now will need to.
Yep, staggeringly bad decision. Some people are simply not cut out to handle that level of wealth, and the fact that this couple have went public about winning £56m is probably a reasonably good indicator that they have little comprehension of what they have just won - and the consequences thereof.
Personally, if it was me, I wouldn't say a dickie bird to anyone but close family, and a couple of close & trusted friends.
ETA:
As for how I would "hide" such new found wealth, well most of the stuff I would immediately buy wouldn't scream "multi-mullionaire" and after that, I would simply suggest quietly that I've done well with my investments.

From what I've heard, the bigger the win the more you are encouraged to go public by the lotto provider - Camelot in our case.
They try to justify it by giving reasons such as explaining your sudden change in lifestyle to people you know will be hard, etc. Really, they just want the good publicity of an average Joe winning a lot of cash.
Personally I'd tell as few people as possible. I really can't think of a good reason for having the fact that you're suddenly rich plastered all over the newspapers
