How does the 10mm recoil compare with the .45?Colt 1911 .45
I've never had the chance to try a .38 Super 1911, which many consider to be the best.
Only really works though if you do all those modifications to the standard gun. If you wanted to use a standard 1911 frame and keep most of the parts stock, I think I'd favour .40 S&W or 10mm (much the same) as you then get good capacity and accuracy with a round capable of making major power factor.
I also had a .40 Glock which I could get to make major PF for competitions. It survived quite well despite being a bit of a handful. With excellent timing it eventually broke its firing pin on the last shoot I attended before I had to hand all my pistols in for the ban.
I went to this small prep school near the SE coast (circa 1980ish) and the mad old headmaster there had this walk-in lockroom absolutely stuffed with guns. With some really weird examples like a handheld anti-tank rifle from WW1.
He happily let 10 year old boys play with some of them in the shooting range on the grounds.

I used to fire one when I was in RAF every year as part of refresher training. Started off on the old SLR, then graduated onto the SA80 as it progressed and finally a pistol. Because I had to shoot with an eye patch, they then said you can't fire the SA80 with an eye patch on safety grounds so I was taught how to fire a 9mm pistol. I didn't fire it too much as I left the forces shortly afterwards though.

I'll be there competing in most of the gallery events Friday and Sunday, with a bit of long range fun on Saturday.
Look out for me on the ranges if you want to chat about it, I'll be the one in the straw cowboy hat if it's not raining :-)

The advantage of .38 Super for IPSC-type practical shooters are that you can make major power factor with it relatively easily,
isnt that where the term 'superface' came from with people loading beyond case/primer specs? The usual CCF/OTC quota of L98A1, L85A1 + A2, as well as the LSW and Lee Enfield No. 8. During my time in the OTC I blagged my way onto a military competition up in the Italian lakes, during which I fired a Beretta 92fs, SPAS 15 semi-automatic shotgun (that was mind-bogglingly long and generally hilarious tearing up the turf on the advance to contact sort of lane) and the Steyr Aug, which was possibly the most comfortable thing I've fired.
Not fired anything other than an air rifle in 3 years now

Later on we got the Carl Gustav, 84mm Anti tank weapon, plus GPMGs and Sterling sub machine guns.
