I simply do not understand how any man could have such a thing in his possesion for such a lentgh of time without having the curiosity to open it.

Even if I knew there was nothing of value I would try and break in just for the sake of it. then weigh it in for scrap.

I'd cut the back off with a 9" disk cutter, but if it's a fire safe, the jacket will be full of asbestos.

Umm, he has tried to open it. It's jammed. The lockysmithy wants £300 to unlock it. The man doesn't want to break it.

Good listing though, very interesting.

Turn the safe upside down, then try unlocking it again.

If what you find inside turns out to be a piece of dense metal which remains warm even in a cold environment I bagsy it.

Yours for £6.

And I suspect you'll be dissappointed.

When my father in law died we found a locked safe under piles of his stuff.

This presented us with a problem.

No one knew the combination, he had expressed concerns over "sorting out the safe" just before he died and...

...he had been an explosives expert.

In the end the police delyt with it but I wasn't there when this happened so I've no idea how they did it or what was actually inside as the MIL never said.

I was talking to someone in the pub last night who'd cut one open a few years ago.

(Not sure of the circumstances!)

He said it was hard work, sand sandwiched between layers of steel.

Tried the classic Brainiac/Top Gear method of dropping it from a great height?

I've bumped it around, turned it upside down and on its back etc.

The only way for me to open it would be to cut it open I think.

I say cut it open.. doubt the ebay auction will raise more than £50-100 .. and it would be much more fun cutting it open and finding out what is inside yourself..

When I bought my old house there was a Victorian safe built in under the stairs, locked!!

I had a man out to open it and.....rock all!

He took the lock away and made me a key mind for £60.

He said as a locksmith of 30 something years, he had opened hundreds of safes and never once found anything valuable in them.
