See thats the thing with parents today, they dont discipline their offspring in general*. Mrs slopes folks know a couple who reasoned with their daughter when she was acting up, she ought to consider herself lucky, my old man used to belt me one if i was being a little git, for which i think i am a better adult, Back on topic, earlier today i had to visit the chav emporium known as asda, its the nearest place that sells consumables, and whilst there, this little st was messing around, bashing his mums trolley into people and generally being a nuisance and giving it the big one. What did his stupid mum do? From about half way along the aisle they were in, called his name and told him not to be naughty.

Tricky subject; but if you grew up with the acceptance that it is OK to hit/belt/slap naughty children then your old man has not made you a better person, merely the same (in this regard).

People forget that essentially we are pack animals.

How are young apes taught to behave - given a back hander if out of line.

They don't do it twice.

What is the instinct if a child does something naughty and dangerous - yep a back hander.

Think there is a correlation here?

If our instinct, ingrained over countless generations is telling us that the correct course of action is a sharp shock to correct behaviour, and the outcome of that is a change of behaviour then where is the problem.

now, beating seven shades of a kid repeatedly/no reason is a different matter and one for the 'reasonable man' test.

Oh please.

Kids are revolting little creatures until they are taught how to behave properly. The should be seen (rarely) and not heard, neither should they have an opinion about anything. If they step out of line they need to know they've done so.

I am sick to death of spending money on restaurants/cinemas/days out/hotels/delete as applicable only to have them ruined by revolting loud mouthed kids.

but it's not the kids fault in essence, the parents need to get a grip. Though giving a child a slap (not a beating) is far from out of order at times.
