Got a bit of a rant to vent..

After a recent survey on our teams performance we scored 100%.
So where is the rant then.
We fking work hard for our company and for ourselves but i am getting fking sick of usless managers asking for that little bit more and going that extra fking mile. We have not had a fking pay rise in 5years we don't get any annual bonus no fking profit shares there is no fking incentives to be had but they just keep asking for more. Well fk them all.
We work hard and we score 100% last year it was 98% and all they can do is ask for more rather than acknowledge our fking efforts thank us for doing well wait 2 fking weeks before having a go at asking for more. I meen we din't even get a company fking christmas card last year.
Don't get me wrong i enjoy the job i do and after this survey it shows we do work hard and excel in some areas but is it so hard for a company who is in the top ten in its field to take a moment and thank those poor little chaps at the bottom of a ladder as a simple thank you goes a long fking way.

Sorry for all the swearing but does this crap happen to any of you.

Yes

Hard economic times as we all know.

We were 3% over this year on a very tough targe, made millions, growth in several areas. Managers very happy as they get huge bonuses on this performance.

They have taken away one of our yearly bonuses, stopped money increases for promotion (guess who is due one) several other payments also stopped.

Thats the private sector for you. Guess its time to phone my favourite recruitment agency.

If you got 100% in the survey then you must excel in all areas? At least, excel in the areas expected and to the level expected?

Some companies really don't realise what their staff do for them, your team work their nuts off and it would be easy and cheap to get the big boss to come down and say 'you know what guys, you've done really well and I appreciate it'. That, if done sincerely will have a massive affect on morale.

ETA if you're going to swear in your rants the. I'd like a bit of variation with the chosen word. A sprinkle of variety will get you good marks round here, maybe bd tt or maybe just an occasional motherfker?

I rarely need to give more that 40%, but my boss has told me on many occasions that he is fine with that as long as I am ready with the other 60% when he needs me to step up and deal with something. And I got a pay rise this year. biggrin

A lot of employers are making recoed profits at the moment, but it's much cheaper for them to keep the shadow of recession over their staff when it comes to bonuses etc.

Same here. It can be really dull at times, but a God send on days like this.
I didn't drink last night, but I'm so tired I feel hungover...

I agree totally. Wouldn't take much would it? However if you tell them you're off to pastures new they often temporarily realise the error of their ways and decide that a quick thank you would have saved them the few grand in agency fees for your replacement...

yes

We've been in the same boat for 3 years at our place, but a bunch of divisional directors gave themselves and clients a jolly to the World Cup at company expense, and they still had their annual "Top 100" (managers/directors) at Gleneagles this year at a cost of £250k.

Meanwhile there've been several redundancies and other people (like me) have had de-facto promotions without the title or pay-rise (i.e. they just give you several extra tasks to deal with that previously were your boss' tasks).

Depending on what industry you're in, walk. Recruitment activity IS picking up, and it's the best way to get more money (if that's what matters) and maybe some more recognition. If you're genuinely going to do that, have a word with your boss first and tell him how disappointed you're feeling at the lack of recognition and see what reaction you get...

Surely if you score 100% that's what you're getting paid for? Anything less and you should get paid less?

There's a huge recession on and just the fact of being employed and having any kind of income right now is a privilege and will be for a few years yet.

Which is exactly the kind of attitude which leads to the disillusionment of the OP.

Does a recession prevent managers/bosses offering recognition and reward?

About 8 years ago I was doing a stressful job and was one of a handful out of the team of 24 who didn't go sick as a result.

We received an email of gratitude from senior management, and an extra £100 in our salary (take 40% off for tax).

Frankly I'm not sure which is worse, no gratitude or faux-gratitude!

Ahhh don't worry, I've been here 3 years, I even got a £500 pay rise this year because we made £50m profit last year, the year before we didn't because we only made £30m profit.

Bonuses, HA, I bloody wish, we used to get a £100 per quarter bonus if no-one was injured in any way. When I started I missed the first one as wasn't there for the full 3 months, only 2.1/2 months. Then the second quarter someone cut their finger so missed that one, the next, someone decided it was a good idea to try and stop a 15 ton barrel rolling and crushed their hand...so missed that one. The next we got, wooohooo £100 bonus in 8.1/2 months. Then they decided to change the rules so it's now impossible to get. GREAT.

Don't worry OP you're not the only one.

We were supposed to have a 2% pay rise from 1st of august but that hasn't happened.
Our contracts manager is looking into it HA.
After his monthly meet he did ask if we could do a few extra jobs to help the client out a bit more.
So i suppose that if you are at the bottom of the food chain...

Most are taking apay cut, so I really don't see what your problem is. You have a job unlike many and you haven't had a pay cut, lucky you.

I think the only attitude problem is of the OP. It doesn;t take much to see that many are taking pay cuts or actually losing their jobs. If the OP isn't happy, then look elsewhere but I think that he/she will find the grass is rather more brown elsewhere than it used to be.
