I've always thought Loose Chippings was an odd name for a village.
Seen quite a few on my travels, though.
There's an area of Cardiff called Splott, which must be the most un-salubrious sounding area to live.

Splott is near the prison, and around the area of the 'magic roundabout'.
It used to be a bit of a crap part of town, but then ex-students started moving there because it was cheap and close to the centre, so it went a bit BoHo.
The locals then started pronouncing it 'SPLOW'.
My favourite local road is 'Bouncers Lane', I can only guess about the history of the area.
