On both counts Kindersley is right. But, you might want to also consider quitting work and going on benefits, getting your OH pregnant (at least 8 times) to claim child support, claim incapacity benefit, sue McDonalds for making you fat, change the locks and stop paying rent, moan at the NHS when they won't treat your obese daughter (D'Marion) or druggy son (Neo). Oh, and drive and uninsured, untaxed and un-MOT'd shed.

Is there a 'spacker' smillie showing a lower lip being pushed out with a tongue?grumpy
After the month I've had at work that could be a plan... I've already got the "shed" the MOT is due next month, and the tax in January so could just let it slip... I've no OH, but hey if I'm willing to let all other standards slip it wont be hard...

Stop the SO/DD for your rent...

Wait for a call from the land lord.

Explain to him that he is in breach of contract by not providing you with sufficient notice before having contractors visit the house and you want his assurances that it will not happen again.

If it does, rinse and repeat.

Stick an extra basic security lock on the door and get the letting agent to confirm the contact details they hold as they could be "contacting" you but they have a transposed telephone number dodgy email address or similar that means you never receive it. If you try the can we check the details first then they have a face saving way to correct the problem blaming a temp or former employee.

I'm not sure the tenant (OP) has a right to install another lock on what is technically not their own door, but belonging to the landlord?

If you were tell them NO not without 24hr notice as per you're contract.
There is something wrong with your post.

As has been said, they're not authorised to enter the property unless you have been notified. I'd have stern words with the landlord or letting agents again.

EDIT-To add a polite smilesmile

"Where do i stand?"
Behind the door, with a copy of the contract, then use "any weapon that comes to hand to defend yourself and your property":

readit

count to 5....

shoot

Explain to police that because your landlord would give you 24 hours notice, you thought they were attacking/burgling you, so you picked up the nearest weapon (just happened to be two small firearms) and defend yourself...

IIRC from when we rented - there was a clause in our contract where if we changed the locks the land lord could charge us for costs associated with gaining entry to the property and changing the locks again.

So I wouldn't advise putting a lock on.

As I've said before - Stop your standing order / Direct debit - your Land lord will be quick enough to get in contact and you can resolve the issue.

No I've/we've not been in at any point...

Was debating borrowing my folks dog, but although looking scary she's soft as ste, evil bark though...

The tennancy agreement does state they must give us 24 hours notice, so I guess they are in breach of contract, but that's not going to stop them.

Nothing has been taken, only stuff repaired which is a good thing, but it's just not cricket, I mean all future plans of developing the shed into a brothel/crack den are out the window now.
Having almost been in this position myself, but as the landlord trying to gain entry, it is illegal for them to enter your property (where you are the tenant) without providing you with at least 24 hrs notice and then ONLY when you have given permission UNLESS in an emergency, ie burst water pipe, fire etc. Generally speaking, most tenancy agreements will have a clause stating this. You are generally also NOT permitted to change or add locks without consent from the landlord for this very reason.

I figured that a lock change was a no-no. It's just they are breaking the tennancy agreement, and upon us doing the same or cancelling the DD then we/'d get in ste because of it, it's not really fair but there is nowt we can do about it.

I have a 32mm spanner and a maglight which I can use for weaponry upon the workmens entering.
Also I've got those 3m glasses with lights on the side and a paper suit which I could wear to add to the effect? I'm thinking I wont hide behind the stares though but behind the lifesize Darth Vader cardboard cut out and then pounce...?

Confused about the nice little earner though? Could mug the workmen i guess?

ETA: They have my number as they called yesterday to sort out the workman coming round today to sort the taps out, which is fine, they just failed to call me to tell me the workman was also coming yesterday to look at said taps...
