It sounds like you're still not quite over her, despite the intervening eight years - propabaly because of the suddenness of the split.

Go. Say your goodbyes and move on.

Don't worry about bursting into tears - that won't exactly look out of place at a funeral.

hi, i dont think me turning up will cause any problems, its more the fact of me making a fool of my self by bursting out in floods of tears as i know i will.
Well, I wouldn't worry about being a fool in that way, plenty of people cry at funerals.

However, there is nothing to stop you from going to the grave another day and paying your respects?

Go. She obviously meant something to you at some point, maybe still does in a sentimental way. Say goodbye and be pleased that you made the effort, no matter how upsetting it was. You don't want to end up regretting not going.

well today was the funeral, i did'nt go, i just could not get myself to do it. seems she died of a heart attack in her sleep, so hopefully she never felt anything. i will go to visit the grave, just not for a while.

Only just seen this thread but if I had news like this about my ex, who I split up from about 5 years ago now, that is just about how I would deal with it.

My dad died last year and my mum got shedloads of cards and letters, all of which were deeply appreciated. If you want to tell a member of the family about how sad you feel at the moment, you could always write a card. You don't even have to put your name in it.

I'd have gone.

And danced.

You're probably a better man than me.

Me too. And worn a t-shirt with the slogan "That'll learn you" on it.
Actually, I probably wouldn't have. TOo lazy.
I'd have just stayed at home and masturbated over the whole sorry mess.
