American English the standard
Discussion
Sadly it would appear that Queen's English will die out. Not withstanding the fact that the advent of internet has taught a generation of children that color, honor and center is an acceptable spelling, the company I'm working at dictates that all communications must be sent out using American spelling......very sad
To some extent it is sad, but English is dynamic and always has been, look at nice for eg., some Americanisms like faucet are actually olde English that we moved on from.
Ultimately the English Speaking World has a lot to be proud of - I'd rather see us cement alliances and come together to continue making the world a better place.
And stuff the French.

I couldn't agree more with the OP, I think it's a bloody disgrace.
Only last night my daughters told me that their English teacher had given them a few bad marks on a test, because they were supposed to answer the questions in American English, WTF???
My kids are English, speak excellent English, and get marked down as being incorrect by a German fking teacher of English in a German fking school, because he is trying to teach the children American fking English, in Adenau, which is a two horse town full of inbred ginger Germans, FFS!!!!!

English is a mixture of several languages. It contains several words of the Anglo-Saxon dialect spoken in ancient England. It has absorbed thousands of words from many other languages such as French, Latin, German, Greek and so on. One can find even Sanskrit words in English. For example, Sanskrit words Guru and Pundit are used frequently in English. Original pronunciation and original meaning of many words have changed in English.
So American English may get taken up too... as long as its not txt spk as well

But you do have Pinnochio's to eat at, the Brauhaus to drink at and the following day you get drive round the ring. All year round Only last night my daughters told me that their English teacher had given them a few bad marks on a test, because they were supposed to answer the questions in American English, WTF???

Jokes aside, i'd be most upset if my spelling were corrected so it spelt a word the American way.

The company I work for uses english english as its first language but teaches everyone this odd "german" english, I just walked out of the class I was in and did something else (some proper work) I later got pulled up on it in a jokey kinda you couldnt handle it kinda way, I just pointed out that Im english, your german and that once you have lived in england for 30 years then maybe you can question the way I form sentences.
I'll see if I can find an example of how they form sentences and questions as they put words in a strange order.
BTW my grammar is terrible and so is my spelling but that isnt the point..

'International' English, perhaps?I'll see if I can find an example of how they form sentences and questions as they put words in a strange order.

It's a way of simplifying both the variety of words and the sentence structure to help it make sense to people who haven't had 30 year's practice

ie. A mixture of Deutsch and English, top of my list for when I come into power, way before Poland or any of that nonsense, people that speak Denglisch will be rounded up, have their tongues removed, and then be boiled in oil

As I work in comms for an American company we've had the same edict. My Director was an American on secondment and recommended as we were in Europe that we used 'proper English' her words so I've ignored it and no-one has mentioned anything so far.....

I work for a German owned company, the company language for business being English. I am repeated hassled by colleagues who bastardise my written documents because I REFUSE to switch Word to American English, so words end "se" instead of "ze", and "our" instead of "or", etc.Only last night my daughters told me that their English teacher had given them a few bad marks on a test, because they were supposed to answer the questions in American English, WTF???

I have informed my colleagues time and time again that as a Brit I will not change my written English, especially as I already have to 'translate' documents received from 'Franglais', 'Spanglish', 'Germish'....
I already speak French, German and Luxembourgish with my colleagues so they don't have to speak in English with me if they don't wish to.
My two children are in a local primary school and my youngest's teacher likes to practice her English with us and our daughter. She doesn't mind being corrected by an 8 year old!
