Competitions - does anyone actually win?
Discussion
Friend of mine won a prize in an internal works 'competion'. The prize was awarded to the student that did the best non-compulsory additional project work on their training course. As the students didn't know there would be a prize for this project work, and they all knew it didn't count towards their final results, only my mate was eligible for the prize because he was the only one that handed in the project at the end of the course.
So you could say that he won because nno one else bothered, but they were impressed with his project work anyway.
The prize was a round trip to New York on the Concorde, with the entire trip (apart from when being served meals) in the cockpit with the crew. When he was having meals, he was sat with George Michael and some other 'celebs'. (before George was known to be a gayer).

Over the years Mrs C has won CentreParcs vouchers, a holiday in New York (which was changed to a week in Cyprus thanks to Osama B.L.), various hotel short breaks, £1500 Ikea products, £1000 Habitat vouchers, a £1700 Loewe TV, a PS3 plus many smaller prizes. She does enter a LOT of competitions though, well over 500 per month.

I can only imagine that people who enter hundreds of competitions must get totally inundated with junk mail and sales calls from being added to so many marketing lists??
I have a seperate email account for use when I need to sign up for something which might result in me getting spammed. No one other than family and close friends gets my "proper" email address - so I never get any spam on that one......so far!$9,999 (about £6,000+ at the time) by correctly saying what the 'H' in General Norman H. Schwarzkopf stood for. If you're at all interested it doesn't stand for anything as it's an initial only, not an initial for a longer name, (I'd just read his autobiography).
I also won a Best of Texas CD signed by the lovely Charlene Spiteri (sp?).

Recent lazy Sunday afternoon reading one of the supplements, I, through a sheer inspired one off mad moment, entered a competition to win a £3,000 or a luxury holiday to Mauritius.
I won. Which was nice.
Of course I received an email notification, which I didn't believe. Checked their website - my name was on there as the winner, I still didn't believe them. Phoned them and told them I didn't believe them. So they sent me proof. I now believe them
this reminds me...if ou have a spare 15 mins its well worth listening to some of the phone calls made by the guy from 'best of the best' (the airport car thing - they're on the website) - bloody funny having people hang up on him etc cos they dont believe itRecent lazy Sunday afternoon reading one of the supplements, I, through a sheer inspired one off mad moment, entered a competition to win a £3,000 or a luxury holiday to Mauritius.

Not when it involves an Elise and a popular motoring website...
That's the 'Bin for you!!I've heard all of the 'hush-hush', 'sin-bin threat', cloak & dagger whisperings (such as those above) for ages now and wish someone would explain.
I know that there was a (PH?) competition to give away an Elise, and there is some dissatisfaction with the outcome. Anyone want to elaborate further?
Turned out that the car didn't exist and it was pretty much forgotten about until someone kicked up a fuss and people were rightly pissed off.
There was talk of some lotus goodies for the victims (although I never heard anything else about it which is strange as you'd think they'd have a list of those who entered )
Anyone who entered was able to get their £1 refunded.
Years ago, I did a work experience placement at a local radio station. Chatting to the DJ, he said that most of the competitions the station ran only had about three or four people in the running at any one time, especially the ones run in the middle of a weekday.

I was helping out a boss at a charity do back in the late 80's selling tickets on a counter at the entrance..
Got the end of the evening and one of the "star" prizes, a weekend for two donated by a german airline remained unclaimed, so my boss said "congratulations, you just won!
to cut a long story short, I took the current girlfriend and it was about 3 days after we had had a massive row and decided to go as friends.. fell out again in Frankfurt and ( as far as I know) she still lives there...
