Got something from DPD the other day, and had the same service. Although due to a technical error, either on the person sending it's behalf, or theirs, it was a day late. But they sent me a text to tell me, which was nice. But the day it came, I got "Your parcel will be delivered between 14:37 and 15:37 today. Got delivered at 14:32 to the neighbours.

Citylink have a very good point by point service on their website. Will tell you where it is in the depo and whether it's on a lorry or the van. But citylink have a tendancy to take parcels back to the depo rather then try and leave them with a neighbour.

I had a parcel arrive from Germany, it was sent late an afternoon, next morning it arrived to Sweden, approx 70 miles from the delivery address. Then the Swedish post took over...
It took two bleeding weeks for the last 65 miles (I had to collect it 5 miles away as well).

Royal Mail is a godsend compared to the utter dross the Swedish Post is.

Germans, innit. They're good at that sort of stuff.
DPD might be good in Blighty, but here in Germany most of the post companies are shockingly awful. Often when tracking packages from the UK, they get to Germany within 1 or 2 days and then sit in the distribution centres for a week or two. Then they generally leave a recorded/signed-for delivery on the doorstep in full view. And to send anything here costs a fortune.

UK may be behind most of EU but you are light years ahead of France! dreadful postal service here, if I place 3 orders, 1 in USA, 1 in UK & 1 in France, little yellow frenchman is the last to arrive hehe

their delivery drivers give up at the slightest obscurity in an address, if they do find you and your not in they'll sign their own name on delivery dockets and throw the parcel somewhere you'll never find it, have had 5 different address in different parts of france over the last 3 years with the same service applied.

about to try these guys today http://www.parcelsplease.co.uk/ have heard good reports through the grapevine, £12.50 for 30kg, collected and delivered to your door, tracked and insured.

will let you know.....

UPS seem to be the only bunch of monkeys I can trust to deliver any packages to me on time without ever having an issue.

I now refuse to use DPD after my last order (3G dongle).. Story goes they were to deliver at my work (massive 3 window shop front with signs and everything!) Driver comes in to deliver neighbouring shops parcel (with no company shirr etc on) .. Then my parcel doesn't turn up - I ring dpd and after being hung up on 3 times I finally get told that the driver couldn't find the shop and that they re-schedule for the following day..
Following day comes and I get a text - deliery between 11am-1130am - but nothing turns up - I ring DPD and apparently the driver said that at 1112am there was nobody in the store and the door was closed and locked .. I had 2 staff in that day as well as myself and it happened that we put through two transactions on the till between 11 and 1120 which meant ppl were in full view of the door .. fking useless twunts ..

Can't be all bad in the UK - I ordered something from a retailer in Scotland around 2pm on a Monday, it arrived Tuesday morning.

Having said that, every single darn time those cretins with the green and yellow vans try and deliver something, they fail, dismally. I've even seen the tracking change from "out for delivery" to "signed for by xyz". Despite the fact I was at work, and my housemate was at work (I could see him sat in his desk) - no-one was at home to sign for it. Found my parcel left out in the open, in clear view to all. Not amused.

Still, the two occasions previous they tried to deliver, left a card, then when I called to arrange collection, they'd already sent it back to the retailer, despite clearly stating they wait at least 7 days. Useless.
