New Job, New Wardrobe Required
Discussion
PH Style Gurus...
I'm just about to start a new job that requires a slightly different attire to my old one.
I will require the following to adhere to the dress code:
Suit
Shoes
Shirts
Tie-Optional
Cufflinks-Optional
I've never done this before so would like some pointers in where to start.
Budgets not really an issue, been looking at lines such as Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren etc to give you an idea.
Thanks

TM Lewin is OK for work stuff.
I bought a suit there a couple of years back and it's aged better than some more expensive ones.
Plus there is always a sale on so £500 suits are £225 (mind you, it's probably one of those promos where they have never actually sold a suit for the £500 rrp)
Watch the shirts though. I have a couple that are nice and have worn well, but others seem to go as dry as paper. My ironing lady ended up refusing to iron them so I gave them to charity.

If you are at Ralph Lauren levels (black or purple label) then go for those or Tom Ford - if you want off the peg. These are quite a bit more than Boss suits though.
Paul Smith make the nicest off the peg suits at the Hugo Boss level IMO.
Most here will suggest you spend the same amount on tailored suits - and I'd be inclined to agree (certainly if you are buying RL suits).
For shirts, Thomas Pink are nice or Dunhil if you want something more expensive with a bit more class.

Rather than spend a lot on suits from the likes of hugo boss, ralph lauren etc, why not buy a couple of cheaper suits in case of accidents, such as a cup of coffee being spilled on it. For example, try burton's, you could get a decent suit, shirt etc for a lot less than the names, but if you want to buy from a well known label, then have a couple of suits for days when you might have to meet clients, got to meetings etc.

I don't mean to seem harsh, but realistically, if you feel, as a grown man, you need to ask where to buy basic business attire you may struggle to hold the job down. Have you not considered walking down pretty much any High Street in the UK?
T'was harsh, but with a heavy dosage if truthfulness !Thankyou4calling said:

I think that's a bit uncalled for to be honest. he's said that he's moved to a job which has a much different attire, so he probably hasn't needed to wear suits before.A guy i know used to be a Senior Project Manager in a large pharmaceutical company (c.£75k/year salary, and he'd been there since graduating), but it was a relaxed office so everyone wore smart jeans and a polo shirt.
He then moved to the city, to a similar job, but had to wear a suit and tie every day.
So he was in the very same boat, he had just never had to buy a suit before.
Cut the guy a little slack. Christ - the judgmental, holier-than-thou side of PH is getting rather boring of late...
