On a serious note.
1. Different suits have different cuts. Ignore the price, try on lots of different brands and cuts until you find one that fits well. Bespoke is fine if you can afford it but bear in mind this is for work, not your wedding. They can and do wear out so bear in mind replacement costs periodically. TM Lewin suits seem decent for the price (when on sale).

2. Same for shirts. They get worn and washed and ironed regularly so wear out. Or you spill coffee or beer or drop a biro on them. I'm happy to spend up on a nice shirt for the weekend. Monday to Friday - value all the way. Besides, there's LOADS of good quality affordable shirt makers. My current fave is Hawes and Curtis, simply because they have a range with huge collars which I like smile Loads of places do the 4 for £100 or thereabouts.

3. Belt - simple. Black. splash out on something nice if you like.

4. Shoes - simple. black. Buy on sale at places like Jones. Again, they will wear out eventually but try and buy something that is comfortable, well made (ie, you can re-sole and re-heel them) and preferably on sale.

5. Get a decent black wool and cashmere overcoat. M&S are surprisingly good, as are Zara. Otherwise, Ted Baker aren't bad. Again, sales shopping is your friend.

As Cactussed said if you are wearing a suit or suits every day they wear out. Don't spent loads on a suit but do try to get two trousers, as these wear out before the jacket starts to look worn. You can also get one pair dry cleaned while wearing the other. Best to have at least two suits or more.

All the shirt shops are doing 4 for £100 (Lewins are currently doing 5 for £100)
If you don't fancy ironing then charles tyrwhitt do a great range of non iron shirts

I'll say it again a couple of supermarket suits/ cheap suits can mean you have the clothes for site visits or heading down the shopfloor etc. anywhere else that may cause suit damage.

Marks & Spencer - and as Cotty said, always buy two pairs of trousers.
