There are plenty of man made objects- bridges, towers, ships, planes that weren't designed by a bi-polar tt that throws paint at a canvass like a fitting eplileptic with a brush selotaped to their hand.
by and large they mostly look boringly functional

a world influenced entirely by engineers?

A perfectly fit for purpose piece of engineering is beautiful because of it's application of thought.

Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder after all.

Except a civilised society needs art and culture as engineering and engineers sure as hell dont contribute much to that side of things.
At least arts students and arty types are interesting.
I think you need to look a bit harder at the things designed & built by engineers.
in what way?
This way:

Designed by engineers. But is it art?

I think you'll find that 'design' was produced by a creative and then engineered to make the concept work

nice try
Okay, then.

What about this: Engineering or art?

If I recall, every pane of glass is uniquely shaped because the courtyard wasn't quite square.

I'm glad you've finally come out of the Phillipe Starke contemporary wardrobe though.

Do you need details of my shirtmaker?

A lot of what Brunel built is stunningly beautiful aswell as fucntional....can't think of anything Brunellian that is "dull" actually.

A lot of what Brunel did was because he could not because it was strictly necessary.

Maidenhead Bridge for instance.

Still, I'd rather be in a room full of art students than a room full of accountancy or engineering students.

They redefine the words tedious and dull.
What is your beef with engineering students?

Half of us party harder than the arty types anyway, and can actually string 2 sentences together about current events

erm, just to point out the obvious a car based web forum mainly populated by technical types will generally favour their own background

it's hardly an unbiased representation rolleyes

Ahead of the time engineering.

All round disc brakes.

5 speed box.

Twin cam engine

The ability to embarass more modern machines.

The handling.

But, absolutely not the looks.

They grew on me.

Now, my Velocette I got for the looks.
