And in a similar vein, how baw-hair nearly made it onto Wikipedia as a unit of measurement:

I found this interesting; a man emerged from a 7½ year coma-like state and started talking enthusiastically, recognising friends and recalling events from past years. He then fell back into a coma and died a year later.

The only 'on purpose' German/British double agent of WWII.

I loved the fact that he managed to get one of his fictional agent's widow a pension from the Germans hehe

A previously famous landmark until it got pushed over the side.
This led me down the gruesome but interesting path of googling Everest corpses.

Same here, including the story of the Brit who froze to death but was filmed huddled shortly before he died.

It's an extreme environment, and I know straying from your path to help one person could be a death sentence for an entire party, But even Sir Edmund Hillary said he wasn't too happy with the way some people can become purely target focused and ignore pleas for help from someone who will die without assistance.

Not that I was ever thinking of climbing it, but it seems to be an un-honourable mission if you decide to climb everest knowing full well that you'd plan to ignore people and leave them to die if you come across them.

Spent the afternoon reading about the invasion and subsequent occupation of Norway in WW2, which lead me onto this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebensborn

The SS Aryan baby-making programme.

Some great articles on here, I'm sorry I've nothing to contribute as all the good ones have been posted as far as I can tell. However, it's a bit off topic but has anyone use www.listverse.com ? It's full of random top ten lists. Great way to kill an afternoon.

Don't feed it. Anyone who needs attention enough they troll the PH Wiki thread is not worth bothering about.
