Oranges and Sunshine

The film is based on the true story of Margaret Humphreys, a social worker from Nottingham who uncovered the scandal of "home children", a scheme of forcibly relocating poor children from the United Kingdom to Australia and Canada.

Child emigration was largely suspended for economic reasons during the Great Depression of the 1930s, but was not completely terminated until the 1970s

Hot topic this week - doping in athletics.

So here's one of the first guys I recall being involved - from hero to stehawk in short order, but then back up to respectability through some graft;

Tom Simpson, died during the 1967 Tour De France.

"Tommy Simpson rode to his death in the Tour de France so doped that he did not know he had reached the limit of his endurance. He died in the saddle, slowly asphyxiated by intense effort in a heatwave after taking methylamphetamine drugs and alcoholic stimulants." Daily Mail, 31/7/67.

That's very cool, I'm just quite gutted that I didn't know about it when I visited the lake earlier this year- I could have looked out for it! Crater lake is epic by the way, worth the trip if you are ever nearby!

Hopefully not a re-post...

Larry Walters

Regional safety inspector Neal Savoy was reported to have said, "We know he broke some part of the Federal Aviation Act, and as soon as we decide which part it is, some type of charge will be filed. If he had a pilot's license, we'd suspend that. But he doesn't."

Inspired by Larry, this priest decided to do the same and ended up out to sea with a sat nav he didn't know how to use. He might be the first catholic priest to win a Darwin Award.

Very interesting! I've heard tales of Nazi money etc etc in motorsport, never realised where they came from (whether true or not is obviously another discussion)

Also enjoyed the Larry Walters page, good read.

The bloop is great, there is a book called, Fluke, why the winged whale sings based on it.
