Multi-blade razors
Discussion
My adjustable Futur is coming to the end of its days, not sure how many years I have had it for but it's beyond a good clean, should I go for another (I find it a bit unwieldy for under the nose) or is there a better razor out there these days? I set and leave mine to 1.5, don't like anything too aggressive.

You could try one of the vintage razors.... the Gillette Slim is a lovely razor, I went from a Futur to vintage ones.Recently received a new braveheart razor from Executive Shaving. They've changed design a little so was a little cautious as it was a fairly aggressive razor anyway. The shave is pretty much the same but aesthetically it's not so pleasing (to me). I do hate it when things get 'improved' or 'upgraded' for no bloody reason.
Anyway, I dropped them an email and it sounds like the manufacturer did this off his own bat and ES hadn't noticed the latest batch is different. They are very understanding and offered to supply one of the last batch from personal stock (once sonically cleaned).
Executive Shaving is one of those companies that understands customer service. Top marks.

Hi fellas I have been using Astra DE blades with little or no bloodshed, I have just bought some Feather stainless and look like a small beef tartare. I have to say it`s a really close shave just wondered if they are a bit of a harsh blade or notorious in anyway?
I've only ever used feathers and can't see me using anything else. I did try Astras once but they just felt blunt.I've used them in a DE89 and my current Futur adjustable at max setting 4, so pretty aggressive. Just make sure you've got your technique right and some quality creams.

My second effort with the feather blades has been much more successful, much more care, no blood and what I would call a wedding shave. Definitely better.
Carving up my face made me think of the first time I cut a chunk out of my face trying my dads razor. I bet very few on here can remember those gillette razors where the blade was a band that you wound on like film in a camera. They could make a mess in the wrong hands.

I have been using Gillette 7 o'clock blade(made in Russia) for a year now and still nick myself the first shave with a new blade. They are effing sharp and hold an edge for a decent period.
Razor is Mekur Mrs S got me many moons ago used with mega cheap Mon Savon soap made by Unilever(the white tub sold in all supermarkets next to Wilkinson Sword). It lathers up very quickly and lasts ages.

I think it's all about finding the right gap in the razor for you - there is a real 'Goldilocks' balance for everyone. Also remember short strokes and let the weight of the razor do it.Carving up my face made me think of the first time I cut a chunk out of my face trying my dads razor. I'm currently on blood thinning drugs so will bleed for around 18 months if I nick myself.... still using Feather blades.
Does shaving soap 'go off', in anyone's experience?
After a good many months of use, my EJ sandlewood soap has become a real chore to get any meaningful lather from. This makes for a frustrating and unfruitful shave. Probably not helped by the fact it now spins around in the bowl. I initially thought the fact i'd switched the pre-shave to Pro Raso might be the issue, but skipping it made no difference (and the shave was worse). A few quid on a Wilko shave soap bowl in the supermarket got me a decent result straight away with the same brush (EJ synthetic). So I wonder if the soap has had its day, but seems a waste when there's probably half (by mass) left.
