Great to see two more taking up proper shaving.

I've mentioned before theshavingroom.co.uk as a great place for research if you're looking at different stuff to try.

guitarmandan and BertieWooster, if you care for a few different blades, pm me your address and I'll pop some in the post for you to try.

To be certain, are these the feather blades a few PHer's are suggesting?

Yes.

Very sharp for two/three shaves then seem to die in my exp. As NDA said, change after third shave.

Yep.

That seller is in Thailand - perfectly reliable, but they'll take ten days to get to you.

I order from him.

Bought myself a Truefitt and Hill DE Wellington Razor and using Feather blades.

Getting a much better shave with less irritation.

Mach 3 has gone in the bin!

1: I generally only shave twice a weeks with a 3 blade thing (aqua 3 or something) but I do have sensitive skin - Any issues with a DE razor here? assuming I get good cream and brush?
2: A couple of moles on ma' face - the safety thing glides over them - has anyone had any issue with a bumpy face with a proper razor?
DE is likely to cause less irritation if used correctly.
I have a small mole under my nose, if I'm rushing a shave I may nick myself occasionally, remove the blood and hit it with some alum and it soon closes the wound. Best bet though is to shave slower often the evening before in my experience.

Nice one - thanks - sniping on ebay now for a nice piece.

Everything I ordered turned up on Saturday so it was time to do my first ever DE safety razor shave. I noticed an immediate difference compared to the normal Gillette Fusion razor I normally used. Shaving with the DE razor was a lot less irritating and I achieved a far closer shave than normal. All in all a good result and I was impressed with the quality of the Mühle R89 - it is very solid and just feels right. I will probably end up getting a Mühle brush as well ( this one) - just because I am slightly OCD and like everything to match!

I'm not sure how often people normally change the blade but I may well use mine once and then get rid of it. I shaved again yesterday and it didn't feel as sharp - although that may have been because my first shave removed about 5 days worth of beard growth.

Anyway, thanks for the advice received so far - much appreciated.

3 shaves is normally the maximum I'd use a blade for.

Glad we have another convert!

I can easily do 10+ on a Wilko. Face like a baby's arse, me. And about as pretty.

Jeez. Here was I thinking 'how can there be getting on for 250 pages on multi-blade razors?'

Took a look at the first page - seemed to make sense. Took a look at the last page to see where the debate went.

Googling all sorts of razor type sites now. Jeez. Need to stop!

There's been a part of me nagging away on this - my dad has a 'proper' razor. Don't think he uses it much, but it's a nice thing to look at / hold.

Oh well, may as well jump on the bandwagon! Thought I would give the DE razor thing a go as I can't stomach the outrageous prices of replacement blades for my Gillette Fusion anymore. So have just ordered the following...

DE89 with a sample pack of razor blades
Truefitt and Hill Sandlewood Shaving Cream and Aftershave Balm
A cheapy badger brush
And the obligatory Alum Block,

Sound like a good start?!

Personally I'd start with the wilkinson sword variety from boots for £6. Try it see how you get on and then invest in some nice kit if you like it. I did that and now have a truefitt Wellington DE razor. Currently using penhaligons shave cream. Looking at buying West Indian limes next!

Quick update - have just ordered some pre-shave oil and shaving cream from Taylors of Old Bond Street. I've never used the oil before so will see how I get on with that.

As for blades - I'm now using the Astra platinum which seem pretty good. I'll probably move onto the Shark ones next (and hopefully not get mauled).

Finally, I've been watching the geofatboy videos which have been quite helpful - thanks to whoever it was who posted the link to one of them.
