Multi-blade razors
Discussion
The blades arrived today, still petty amazed I got so much for a tenner!
Which would be the ones to try first? But more importantly which not to try just yet in case I get cut to shreds!
Astra Superior Platinum
Derby Extra
Feather New Hi-Stainless Platinum
Gillette 7 o’clock Sharp Edge
Gillette Silver Blue Stainless
Personna Platinum Chrome
Polsilver Super Iridium Extra Stainless
Super-Max Super Platinum
Treet Platinum Super Platinum
Wilkinson Sword Double Edge
Hopefully the razor & bowl will turn up tomorrow before I go away to work for 3 weeks

Astra Superior Platinum
Derby Extra - third, GM of the blade world.
Feather New Hi-Stainless Platinum - fourth, probably the last you will sample.
Gillette 7 o’clock Sharp Edge
Gillette Silver Blue Stainless
Personna Platinum Chrome - second, highly likely these will score well
Polsilver Super Iridium Extra Stainless
Super-Max Super Platinum
Treet Platinum Super Platinum - don't try these ..... harsh nasty
Wilkinson Sword Double Edge - try these first, sensible benchmark

You can try the others as you like but you will probably plump for the Personnas or Feathers at the end.Derby Extra - third, GM of the blade world.

Most people would say that the Feathers & Polsilver SI are the sharpest.Which would be the ones to try first? But more importantly which not to try just yet in case I get cut to shreds!

Derby are generally unpopular as they are seen to be not so sharp. Plenty of experienced shavers (me included) find they tug & pull like crazy & just give an incredibly uncomfortable shave.
My favourites in order of preference of those I've tried from the sample are:
Top blades - would buy again
1. Polsilver SI
2. Gillette Silver Blue
3= Personna Platinum Chrome
3= Feather
Not so fussed - won't buy again
5. Super-Max Platinum
6. Gillette 7 O'clock Yellow
6= Astra SP
Definitely avoid
8. Treet Platinum
9. Derby
Haven't tried the German Wilkinson Sword blades, but they get very mixed reviews....
An awful lot of people think Astra SP are the best all-round blade but they didn't work for me.
My other top tier blades not in your sample pack are:
Personna Lab Blues
Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinum (Indian Black)
Bic Chrome Platinum
These might be worth a try after you've finished with the samples.
When I did my blade testing I had used the Personna Platinum Chromes for 3 or 4 weeks first. It's pointless testing blades when you don't have any technique. Just pick one make of blade to start with (not Derby or Feathers imo) and use it for 3 or 4 shaves then stick in a new one.
Then you will have a benchmark once you get irritation free shaves & no cuts & nicks & can then start testing the others.
Very rare that anyone says all blades give them as good shaves as each other, so you will notice distinct differences between them.
I'm currently using Shark Stainless blades at the moment and am pretty impressed so far. Good clean shave and not too savage. I've got a pack of their platinum coated blades so may try those next. After the advice on this thread I've also ordered a load of Feather and Astra SP blades - I don't think I'll need to order any more for a year or so now.

The razor & bowl arrived earlier, so just had a shave to see how I get on. I used the Personna Platinum Chromes as they're getting decent reviews here, also used some new BlueBeards Revenge which was pretty nice & different to what I'm used to.
Ok!! I've got a thick beard so I'm only shaving my upper cheeks and neck line to 3 or 4 fingers above my throat to shape the beard. First impressions were the cheeks are miles closer shave than ever before, bit difficult to shape & follow the contours of the beard with a smaller handle as I'm used to something a lot longer/thicker (no jokes!!!) so took a few passes with more cream to get right. Bit of a pain but I'll get the hang of it!
Neck!! Need to practice more here! No mega painful/sharp cuts but quite a few tiny pin hole sized cuts and feels like it'll rash. Maybe more cream would help? Again had to shape the beard & found it a little difficult with a razor I'm not used to...plus first time use made it a bit nervous & had visions of my head falling off any second!!
But over all definitely worth it, necks a bit sore but smooth, and cheeks feel smooth as silk!!!! I'm off to boots & tesco later so what would be a decent product to moisturize & cool the neck after shaving?
Quick pic of what I've got so far. Big fan of GF Trumper but willing to try anything else out that's nice.
Congrats on the shave
The neck is often a problem because it's so sensitive (so reacts badly to too much pressure) & it's harder to keep a constant angle like it is on your cheeks.
It could also be that you're accidentally going against the grain too soon. For instance, going WTG on the first pass on my neck means roughly N-S from the jaw down to about 2 inches from the base of my throat. From there the growth reverses & it's S-N so I have to change directions during the first pass or I'll be in trouble.
Let your beard grow for 2 days & then you will see which direction it grows & be able to work out the best way to stay WTG on pass #1.

Nice one. Please remember, it's more about minimum pressure and multiple passes than one swift pass. As above, one pass with the grain, one across and maybe one against, all with just the weight of the razor, no pressure. It may take a little longer to begin with but it pays dividends in the long term.

Totally agree. I took me ages to work out less (pressure) is more.
I'll leave shaving again until Monday then
Maybe more lather/cream and no pressure will be better? The difference between this and my old Gillette fusion is unreal! My beard grows back very quick, maybe 6-7 hours after shaving and it's bristly...it's still nice & smooth! Razor looks the business too with a rose hold handle. Nice!!

I used to be a fan of the Personnas, but I've gone off them. Bought a box of 200 and about to bin half of them. I found plenty of them are only really sharp down one edge and the other edge is pretty dull. Hsving spent too many mornings shaving without rotating the razor, I decided enough was enough.

£1.29
Reviews don't seem too bad. I've bought 4 - 3 for stocking fillers, and one for me to try. If it's lighter than my Futur, it'll go in the travel kit.
