No, not in use, it's a chunky little thing and I've never had an issue with slipping.

Thanks chaps.... I'm quite excited about getting all of this through now biggrin

At approx 10p per blade even if they are used just once then it's still probably cheaper than the more traditionally used razor blades that most people buy...

Either way, I'm just after a nicer shaving experience and hopefully this will help.

Trouble is.... Of I really like this and it gives better shave.

Is it really simple to change the blades over too?

Am I going to get hooked and want to buy a load more, more expensive razor blades? hehe

No doubt I'll try this, enjoy it, and start looking at a much more expensive Murkur one instead. In reality, what are the differences... I mean, how would you guys choose between the list of Murkur razors on the connaught shaving website? And do they all take the DE blades (like the personna platinum chrome)?

Sorry for so many questions! Total newbie to this. You guys have been really helpful!

I tried one of these old school safety razors and blades on recommendation from here a few years ago and basically cut my face off.

Don't bother now. I now use a gillette whatever thing and a "razorpit" - it's ace, I've not changed the blade in over a month.

hehe You're doing it wrong!

It can take a while and some patience to re-learn how to shave but if it ain't for you, it ain't for you. At least you gave it a go. thumbup

Shaved for the 5th or 6th time today using it and got one very small nick under my jaw bone, that was it. It just takes practice. I used to use hydro5 razors and had used Gillette mach cartridge razors in the past too, but I feel this way gives a closer shave.

Probably need to reduce that to just a single shave per day hehe

Snap!! Although I've been shaving with a plastic DE wilkinson for the last 2 years, it's about time I actually upgraded so went for the knurled EJ89.

I presume that investment in a brush / soap isn't essential and that I can continue to use Gillette shave gel for the time being?

Yes carry on with that. I still use loreal shaving gel. Only through laziness to be fair.

You may be okay, but a brush and soap/cream is far better.
I have a posh Simpson brush which I like, but realise they're not cheap. I also have a horsehair brush which is very efficient, though not as 'comfortable' to use. A tenth of the price though - click.

Yeah you will be fine, I used canned stuff while I got used to the new razor.

Have a look at the Crabtree and Evelyn soap, it's really nice to use and lasts ages smile

I've just added this to my rather large collection:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MGN1NU0?psc=...

A very good brush, moderately rare too, also discounted to a level that's realistic. Highly recommended.

As others have said you can carry on using the canned goo until it runs out. Then buy some prosaro shave cream and a cheap brush and you should be set for three or four months at least.

I bought a brush with razor but I found it absorbed most of the foam I used and didn't really seem to help? Do I need a foam/soap bowl to create a leather or something for it to work properly

The stuff I use comes out of the can ad a gel but foams up really well when you rub it together. I just then put this over my face using my hands after I've wet my hands and face. I'm not even using my brush at the moment. I tried it for the 1st couple of times but couldn't seen am6 benefit.

For the record, this is the foam I'm using

http://www.timetospa.co.uk/men/shaving/Elemis-Ice-...

I won't be buying a soap or anything else as I'm very, VERY pleased with this stuff and have a spare can left too
It's. Not cheap but by miles the best foam I've ever used.

Many thanks in advance with regards to what to do with the brush.

Save the brush until you need it for some kind of soap.

Try TOBS, Trumper's, Doc Harris's or any proper shaving soap - even the humble Palmolive stick before you give up on a brush. When you get it right it's an unfeasibly slick shave. wink
