A sharper blade makes for a cleaner easier shave, my worst blades 'Treats', I would avoid these like the plague.

I tend to do one pass a day Monday to Friday. Should I be doing more than that?
Nope.

Everyone's different.... some have hair growing in different direction and a second pass, going a different way, catches these hairs.

Whatever works.

I got one of the multi packs from connaughtshaving, which are the sharper ones. I've been using personna platinum chrome and they've been good (without anything to compare to).

I'm happy enough with them that I wouldn't really hesitate in replacing them but are there sharper ones in the pack?

Feather hi stainless platinum the sharpest de razor blade as per the advertising. I find durability is ok, I can squeeze a week out of a single blade.

Blades like Feathers and Personna are generally agreed to be pretty good. Individuals have differing opinions, probably as there is no standard beard.

These arrived this morning.

Along with some Derby blades. Are they a good or bad place to start? If bad, does Boots sell Personna?

I seem to remember their slogan is 'a treet for your face'. Nope.

Never tried them, but by repute they aren't the sharpest kids on the block.

I had a reasonable experience with the Derby blades. Give them a go but order some Personna and Feathers for later.

I think the Derbys are very average, the Wilkinson blades in boots are a lot better IMO!

Connaughtshaving.com have quite a few various personna blades. Are the better ones people keep mentioning on here the platinum chrome ones? The "barber" ones are the more expensive.

I'm tempted to order some shaving soap and a bowl (may go for Dr Harris sandalwood shaving soap in beech wooden bowl)..... Thoughts?

So, ambitious right in thinking that to get a lather it's a case of wetting the brush, rubbing it around inside the soap bowl (no matter how full it is) and then just apply over the face, making sure it's not too thick when you shave (as it'll dry out)

Cheers

The barber blades are nice but not as good as the platinums in my experience smile

Derby blades are one of my least favourite. Not particularly sharp & tug & pull like crazy.
It was like night & day when I went from them to Personna platinum chromes smile

I believe you can pick up persona (unbranded Israeli black) blades in Sainsburys if you're stuck for blades, either that or Wilkinson sword blades from boots.

I have used both but I prefer the wilkinson. And just got a pack of Derbyshire with my Edwin jagger razor that arrived today.

I also nearly threw out the trial packs of shaving cream and pre shave lotion I'll give them a go but need to order a brush and some soap at some point although I'm shaving maybe twice a week at the moment and as I'm a bearded chap it's just around the neck, so have a while before I use all my remaining shave gel.

Just on a note if anyone is a bearded gent I got a very nice hand made beard comb from Kent (plus a folding comb for the hair) direct from Kent for around £7 well worth it. And I've just purchased some Milly's beard oil from apothecary87 and can highly recommend it.

I have heard in the past that Tesco blades might be Personnas, they're certainly cheap enough to have a go with. They were fine for me when I used them.
