It's the few seconds delay you get before you feel anything.

If you've ever used a Merkur Futur, then you'll only slip your finger when adjusting the head once. That bled for what felt like hours! vomit

Now I'll use a towel before I grip the razor to adjust it.
I dropped mine, then caught it awkwardly, when putting it away in a sponge bag once. OMG. It was like the Shining.
I did the same during the summer whilst staying in a hotel with work for an airshow. 2hours later I ended up with St Johns much to the amusement of punters and colleagues as the bleeding hadn't stopped. After 5 hours and a stupid bandage thing it stopped bleeding. I do have a photo of the devastation to the sink and the resulting first aid job but I think I'll avoid posting it.

So what's the difference between the R41 twist, R41 and R41 grande then? And then what's the difference between the R41 and R89 range? I'm thinking of upgrading to something better than my Parker 22R in the next month or 2.....Although I must say I absolutely love it compared to cartridge razors!

Am I likely to find any discernable difference between any of those Muhle razors and my Parker?

To stop it happening, I bought one of these:

But it doesn't fit a Futur. So I had to get one of these:

Which is lovely, but I'm still wary of the razor in it...

I bought one of these a couple of years ago - cheap as chips and do the job superbly.

Excellent smile

Mine is 2 years old and still on the same batteries.... Perfect for trimming/shaping sideburns.

For those of you that cut yourself, pressure on the wound for at least 10 mins and then if it's stopped bleeding sit down and apply some liquid skin to keep the hole clean and keep the skin in the right place. Ok it's going to bring tears to your eyes but avoids a huge hole and a big scar.

After reading Lord Grover's post about the R41 I went and ordered one. I'm very impressed so far. I get a more aggressive shave than with my R89 but the end result is far smoother.
hehe I've gone back to the R89 for the daily shave. The R41 is a great razor, but after a couple of weeks I decided it is too aggressive for every day. I use it for 'special occasions' when I need a particularly close shave or if I've not shaved for a few days.
I don't think I'll go back to the R89 now - unless I decide to use it as a travel razor. I'm getting used to the R41's aggressiveness now so am starting to wonder what the next step up is...

Only DE related injury I have had was when I put it in my wash bag with a blade in, and when I reached into the bag later looking for my toothbrush I sliced my fingertip open.

Made a hell of a mess! You only do that once... hehe

accidentally ordered some astra platinum instead of astra stainless blades.

Used one last night, smooth, but no where near as sharp and left me with a load of small bleeders.

the correct astra stainless have been ordered but will prob have to have 2 more platinum shaves frown
My 2nd batch of Astra superior stainless blades arrived on Friday (100 pack this time).

completely different league to the crappy Astra platinum, but they are harder to find.

last nights shave was great, takes about 10 shaves to get proficient in the use of a DE razor.

Heads up.
100 Rapira Swedish Supersteel for about £8 delivered from trusted Russian Ebayer.
Premium blade. Pretty sharp but ever so smooth. Get them while you can... the Ruble is on its way up.

Been out of the whole DE buying scene for years, having found a set up that suits me.

Thought I'd start using up some old sample blades, so tonight used a Gillette Super Silver (orange writing on white envelope) Very good, smooth, forgiving blade - nicer and easier than my usual 7 o clock yellows.

Had a quick look on ebay and there don't appear to be any for sale, any of the regulars on this thread know a source (presume discontinued?)

I'm very new to the DE scene, and frankly I'm a scruffbag who thinks nothing of going 3 weeks without so much as a beard trim. But, I recently joined the RAF reserves which required a clean shave on parade first thing in the morning one weekend a month. I had this romantic idea in my head of getting up early and having a nice close baby smooth shave with my full travel kit in the block shared shower/toilets. All was going well until I realised I had 3 major bleeders and I'd knicked a mole which is usually not in the way.

Fast forward 2 hours later and I'm on parade, fielding questions about blade age and whether I've used a cut throat, from our flight sergeant Rock ape desperately trying not to bleed on his parade square.

I still enjoy a full blown DE shave at home but on training weekends it's a 2 minute job with the sensor excel and canned foam every time from now on! At least until I improve technique considerably.

Incidentally I mearned the reason for a close shave requirement is to form a good airtight seal on the reperator. So there's one good reason to shed the fluff.

I've been DE shaving for a few weeks now.

I enjoy the ritual, but I think it's the shaving equivalent of driving a classic car. It doesn't give me a better shave, is more dangerous and takes longer.

When I am in a hurry I still use a Mach 3, get as good a shave in a fraction of the time and never cut myself (or get razor burn).

With time and probably a better blade you'll find that it will give you a better shave, you won't cut yourself and it's just as quick.
