Am about to buy a muhle R41. After i dropped DE89 and water got behind the plating.

When I started DE shaving (thanks to this thread god dammit!) i had a very kind soul send me a selection of blades including derbys, personnas etc. but i just didn't feel they were right. So i bought a single box of feathers and have used nothing ever since. Ultra smooth, ultra sharp but at the expense of maybe getting a shave or two less from them than the others.

Anyway, with the R41 being more aggressive, am i lining myself up for a skin graft from my arse or do i just adjust my style?
I shave every day with the R41 and Feather blades. I've had the odd nick but nothing major. I would just recommend taking it steady and don't use any pressure - just let the weight of the razor do the job.

I'm using feathers, from eBay. Some of the pack were corse and left a rash, some were so smooth. Same setting on the razor, what am I doing wrong? 3 shaves per blade, then swap.

Always have a shower first, a good foam going on.

Should I risk more feathers or go to something else? The last batch made me want to go back to a usual one.

So all my bits finally arrived. Edwin Jagger razor and brush, Arko soap bar and Feathers blades. The razor came with a pack of 5 Derby blades so I thought I'd give them a whirl first as seems a waste otherwise. I know my technique won't be amazing yet but these Derby blades feel blunt straight from the pack, from what you guys have said on here the Feathers should be much better! Face is notably less irritable after a couple of days though, much improvement from my Mach 3. Cheers for the advice!
I found the same with the Derby blades, either go for Persona or Feathers these days.

That's disappointing.

Try other blades - I find Feathers super sharp and smooth, but as this thread has proven many times, everyone has a perfect blade for them. You'll have to experiment a bit.

I've tried loads, and settled with these. I can only think it was a duff batch, as some were as their usual shave. I need to order more anyway, I'll get some and some others as backup.

Used one of Boris's finest for the first time today, a Rapira blade in DE89.
Three day growth after bank holiday weekend was dispatched in short order, very nice blade. I'd say it's very similar to Personna sharpness and feel but with the addition of that sticky stuff to hold the blade firmly in place. Early days, just one shave from one blade but it was good.

I have not been on here in a while, but still an avid DE shaver, using my Merkur Slant Bar and various cheap cream sticks and bulk buy of astra super plat from amazon, which means I can use a fresh one each day if wanted.

Well I always keep an eye at the bootsale, and will do more I think now...
Picked this little beauty up for scratchcard money.

1948 Gillette Aristocrat 74g #21 Rhodium plated! Once I cleaned it up and did a little research I was shocked to see what they fetch on evilbay! Some plating has rubbed away, and I might look into getting it replated which seems to be possible?

Bloody lovely shave the weight is great, suffice to say the slant bar will be getting passed on.

well got my technique down now.

sticking with the astra stainless atm, have tried the feathers, they are smooth, but I seem to get closer with the astra stainless.

From my multipack from Connaughts, my favourites have turned out to be something called "Treet". Which I thought was budgie food.
Still, I shall be ordering a supply forthwith.

Yep, I'm finding the Feathers blades to be great. Getting great results now that my technique is up to speed.

I took a month and half or so out of shaving to grow a great dirty beard.
When it came time to take it off I went to the next set of blades in my sample pack which were BIC (no other markings on them).

Bloody awful. I expected it to be tough going because of the thickness/length of the beard (I don't have a trimmer) so took it slow and worked on little patches at a time. I went through 3 blades (they started just yanking hair out) and put it down to the excess length (fnar!) as above.

Came to my usual shave 2 days later, third of 4 blades, and it was just as bad! The razor was going over the stubble, and the blade was just pulling the soap off the hair, not cutting the hair at all!

Thought I may have lost my technique so wanged a BlueBird blade in mid shave and it was back to clean shaven in no time. I got the final BIC out of the packet and had a look at it and it was visibly pretty blunt. Ran it lightly across my hand and it was as blunt as blunt could be - didn't even nick me.

Did I get a bad batch, or are they always that ste?

NIVEA MEN Moisturising Shaving Gel 200ml

Very good for psoriasis sufferers like me who can't use the Bonds shaving creams.

I see Gillette have got bored adding blades to their razors and have now added a Dyson ball to them instead

Where the Dickens do you get any blade for 0.029p?

I'd buy 1,000 for £29.

Ah, seems likely. Feathers are around £25/100 or 25p each Amazon.
