I havent used this type of razor for years, last time my skin was bloody and raw, used a Gillete Mach 3 since then. the sort with a battery inside it, and havent had a problem.Are the Muhle R41 type razors and baldes worth risking?
Only if you like razor burn and having to be very careful when shaving. If you want to shave as a hobby, great. If you just want a smooth face, get a multiblade affair.
I use a trad DE razor when I want to, as an excuse for collecting shiny things. But when I'm away for work in the week I take shaving oil and disposables. Shaving takes 5 minutes flat, no cuts, it takes up no room in the bag and there's no trouble at the airport.

Razor yes, blades no, much better blades than Muhles, DE razor takes a lot more skill than a cartridge type razor but the shave can be as good, the whole experience will be more pleasant and you will be significantly better off financially.Are the Muhle R41 type razors and baldes worth risking?

Agreed, although the skill level involved with a sharp blade is probably not too far off that required to eek out a cartridge razor with a blunt one. I've also managed to resist the urge to spend much money. In the last couple of years I've bought a new alum block and been gifted a new brush, but that's it.Running low on blades now, I'll probably just buy another 30 feather blades for less than a tenner. They last me a few shaves and I only bother once, maybe twice a week.
What are your "go-to" post-shave balms? I've been using elemis post shave recovery mask for over a year now and have been very happy with it.... But at over £25 per 75ml it ain't what you'd call cheap!
Don't mind spending more than the usual nivea stuff as I find that rubbish to be honest. Also looking for a decent moisturiser for afterwards.... Any recommendations much appreciated

It's not overly cheap either, but is rather nice.
As for moisturiser, I use this. A little pricy but lasts ages.

I use this stuff, on my face and neck including after shaving, the amount you use is only about the size of a 1p coin and it is like a hard wax, but it works and stops lines on your face.
Its also inexpensiveDoes this stuff not sting at all after shaving? May buy some
