£118 could buy me 1000 Polsilver Super Iridium blades. Each blade easily does 7 2-pass shaves. That's 19 years of daily shaving with a premium DE blade.

Received a new Merkur 34C HD razor t'other day.
Not sure how/why they get such good reviews. Not great for me (so far). Feels pretty light and not the quality I was expecting for the reputation and price.
Loaded up with one of my favourite blades; personna red and TOBS cream. After three passes and a couple of snagging runs still not as close as my EJ DE89, let alone what I can achieve with my braveheart. Very disappointed.
Can't seem to find any feathers - maybe I've run out. I'll try again tomorrow with a rapira blade or a Gillette 7 o'clock SharpEdge.

I don't think the current 34C is a patch on my previous one (that recently broke). I'm using a 37C instead and it's much better.

Merkur 34C is rubbish. Assigned to back of drawer in case of emergency.

Have received new braveheart razor, inc stainless handle from Executive Shaving.

Two things to note; 1. the handle hadn't been properly deburred and 2. the design has changed a little.

1. two minutes with a scrotchbrite pad and all's good
2. not sure how/why changed but the razor gives a most excellent shave. Very happy.

The original is pretty aggressive, almost on a par with my Muhle R41, though a little more forgiving.
The new one shaves exceptionally close, without the fear factor. The handle will see me out I'm sure, so I'll just have to stock up on heads - just in case.

Top marks Executive Shaving* - the best razor in the whole world. Ever.
So far.

* Customer service is top notch too. Very nice to deal with. No affiliation, etc, yada yada...

Anyone seen the Philips Oneblade? I seen an ad for it on the telly and dismissed it as a gimmick but the reviews stand up barring the battery life.

It will never replace DE shaving but for those times when you're in a rush this might do the job?

Someone mentioned it on here in May. I think they banned him.

Went to Turkish barber in Bath today for a head and face shave.
Really enjoyed the whole experience; lots of brushing which is surprisingly relaxing when someone else is doing it, feeling and hearing the straight razor doing its stuff, head/neck/shoulders/arms massage in the chair and of course the flicked flame on the ears.
The result was pretty good, but no better than I can get myself taking my time with a DE razor. I'd do it again though - thoroughly enjoyable.
Whereabouts in Bath was the barber you went to?

My adjustable Futur is coming to the end of its days, not sure how many years I have had it for but it's beyond a good clean, should I go for another (I find it a bit unwieldy for under the nose) or is there a better razor out there these days? I set and leave mine to 1.5, don't like anything too aggressive.

Sounds like a bit of a beast! I have plenty of experience using a DE but how would I fare with a hangover?

You could try one of the vintage razors.... the Gillette Slim is a lovely razor, I went from a Futur to vintage ones.

Hi fellas I have been using Astra DE blades with little or no bloodshed, I have just bought some Feather stainless and look like a small beef tartare. I have to say it`s a really close shave just wondered if they are a bit of a harsh blade or notorious in anyway?

Unforgiving might be a better description - they are sharp, so your technique better be up to it, and also don't use too aggressive a DE.

Recently received a new braveheart razor from Executive Shaving. They've changed design a little so was a little cautious as it was a fairly aggressive razor anyway. The shave is pretty much the same but aesthetically it's not so pleasing (to me). I do hate it when things get 'improved' or 'upgraded' for no bloody reason.
Anyway, I dropped them an email and it sounds like the manufacturer did this off his own bat and ES hadn't noticed the latest batch is different. They are very understanding and offered to supply one of the last batch from personal stock (once sonically cleaned).
Executive Shaving is one of those companies that understands customer service. Top marks.

I've only ever used feathers and can't see me using anything else. I did try Astras once but they just felt blunt.

I've used them in a DE89 and my current Futur adjustable at max setting 4, so pretty aggressive. Just make sure you've got your technique right and some quality creams.
