My adjustable Futur is coming to the end of its days, not sure how many years I have had it for but it's beyond a good clean, should I go for another (I find it a bit unwieldy for under the nose) or is there a better razor out there these days? I set and leave mine to 1.5, don't like anything too aggressive.
You could try one of the vintage razors.... the Gillette Slim is a lovely razor, I went from a Futur to vintage ones.I've just taken ownership of a 1969 Japanese Kamisori so I expect my Alum block use to skyrocket for a while until I get the technique right.
My second effort with the feather blades has been much more successful, much more care, no blood and what I would call a wedding shave. Definitely better.
Carving up my face made me think of the first time I cut a chunk out of my face trying my dads razor. I bet very few on here can remember those gillette razors where the blade was a band that you wound on like film in a camera. They could make a mess in the wrong hands.

I have been using Gillette 7 o'clock blade(made in Russia) for a year now and still nick myself the first shave with a new blade. They are effing sharp and hold an edge for a decent period.
Razor is Mekur Mrs S got me many moons ago used with mega cheap Mon Savon soap made by Unilever(the white tub sold in all supermarkets next to Wilkinson Sword). It lathers up very quickly and lasts ages.

I think it's all about finding the right gap in the razor for you - there is a real 'Goldilocks' balance for everyone. Also remember short strokes and let the weight of the razor do it.Carving up my face made me think of the first time I cut a chunk out of my face trying my dads razor. I'm currently on blood thinning drugs so will bleed for around 18 months if I nick myself.... still using Feather blades.
Does shaving soap 'go off', in anyone's experience?
After a good many months of use, my EJ sandlewood soap has become a real chore to get any meaningful lather from. This makes for a frustrating and unfruitful shave. Probably not helped by the fact it now spins around in the bowl. I initially thought the fact i'd switched the pre-shave to Pro Raso might be the issue, but skipping it made no difference (and the shave was worse). A few quid on a Wilko shave soap bowl in the supermarket got me a decent result straight away with the same brush (EJ synthetic). So I wonder if the soap has had its day, but seems a waste when there's probably half (by mass) left.

Could somebody recommend me some blades for use with an Edwin Jagger DE89?
Previously I had a Wilkinson Sword cheap DE and used Wilkinson Sword blades with it. Found it fine TBH. Upgraded to the DE89 and am finding the blades don't work very well. Have to press them quite hard onto the face which negates the benefits of DE for me.
Just a quick follow up, I got a sample pack with as many possible types as I could. Feathers, Persona, Astra, two types of Gillette and some others I've forgotten. Feathers have been by far the best for me with this razor. All the others felt the same which was just okay, but the Feather blades do a nice close shave with virtually no pressure applied to the razor. Thanks for the recommendations.

Search for the cheapest Edwin Jagger 89 razor you can find and then either buy a variety pack of blades (most of which will be pretty poor) or go straight to Feathers (sharpest, unforgiving) or Personnas (slightly more forgiving, not just as sharp) and go from there.
Ordered an EJ89 and a pack of feathers and a pack of personnas I'll post back after a test drive and let you know the blood loss!
Thanks

Can someone recommend me a nice and exotic shaving cream/soap.
Just finished my Trumpers coconut soap and also have all the Proraso range but I fancy trying something new and different. Anything but rose!

Shaves well , but you are aware that if you slip you will get cut. Modern plastic razors are not quite as savage.
Otherwise fine, the soap makes the skin feel different from the gel I used to use.
5 o clock shadow seems to return quicker
Happy with the change and I suspect the bank balance will also benefit.
I can see me using disposables on holiday and when camping just for convenience.
Incidentally are you allowed these razors in hand luggage?
