Ah ok thanks.

Possibly a stupid question to you lot, but I didn't know what DE stood for until 10 mins ago so bear with me biggrin

Do you actually have to use specific soap and brush etc or is that just part of the experience? Or will any foam or gel do?

I use a Muhle synthetic bristle brush with Poraso soap and bowl, so yes.

I use the same type of brush with either Taylor's soap, Queen Charlotte shaving cream (i can recommend the Vostok) or a standard Palmolive shaving stick.

The prep is part of the relaxation IMO and you can't rush it.

Queen Charlotte soaps shut down at the end of last year.

I saw that frown, I think some shops still have stock though although most are in the States.

Foams and gels best avoided for the best results. Find a soap or cream you like and a decent brush.
Watch geofatboy or mantic59 youtube vids.

So it's Sunday and i've been off for a week. Hence no shaving whatsoever.

Went in to engoy and excellent shave only to see that my Sandalwood TOBS cream is toast. Lid can't have been on properly and as there was only a small amount lesft it was just nasty.

Went to supermarket and I selected a King of Shaves Gel.. Hellish, disgusting stuff. Can't see how people use this gunk on a regular basis.

Some fresh cream ordered. I'll be hairy until it arrives

anyone able to recommend a good (cheap) shaving gel or foam? I've always used the basic £1-1.50 gilette shaving foam and haven't ever had a problem with it, I prefer it over the gel stuff. welcome to try anything else worth while around it's price range (i dont shave often).

Most supermarkets stock Palmolive shaving sticks which are nice and cheap to have a couple in reserve. Much better than the canned crap.

Enjoying my de razor. As I bought things separately to start with, I did use gel as I had spare but have since got a brush and stick, enjoying using it and have got a bowl on the way too smile

My razor came with 5 blades so I'm ok for now, but just wondering where I can get those sample sets of blades? Couldn't see much on Amazon...

Don't know, I use soap and a brush. Lasts an amazingly long time and you just need to have a spare when you think its almost finished.

Have a look on ebay.
I'd avoid any sample that doesn't include Feathers, Gillette of some description (preferably Silver Blue, 7 o'clock Super Platinum) & Personna. Perhaps also Polsilver Super Iridium.
This seller allows you to make your own samples & has good feedback (no affiliation!):

You could also try www.shavelounge.co.uk. They have two sample packs available:

Pack 1

Pack 2

I've yet to try either of the Gillette 7 O'Clocks so it will be interesting to hear how you get on with those.

7 o'clock SharpEdge is probably my favourite in a mild razor like DE89.
