Shave factory first razor that comes up is this

As it's a butterfly type razor have you got the blade installed correctly? I know with my only experience of a butterfly type razor it's not as easy to setup up as a three piece.
Good spot. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shaving-Factory-SF200-Safe...

My butterfly razors shut - and then need an extra quarter turn to lock down.
And thanks again for the advice.
Stuck an Amazon order in for the following:
Edwin Jagger Razor: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00K82YPBU/
Astra Blades: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CK7NQ8Y/
Styptic Pencil: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0018LS232/
Looking forward to seeing how it compares to my Mach 3 Power (which I think gives a decent shave).

Does EVERY Edwin Jagger DE razor have the same head, the only variation being the handles?

I have owned my Jagger badger brush for just over four years and it's still going strong, though I'll be putting in an order for feathers and cream soon and was contemplating a new brush. How often do you change yours?
My Kent BK2 is two years old, I consider it to now be fully broken in, I would hope to get at least another two years from it and looking at the state my grandads brush was in when we cleared his house I would say five to ten years is the life expectancy of a good brush.LordGrover said:

Yuup. I believe so. Shuttle Cock said:
After all this good advice, and a month of persevering, and trying to adjust the butterfly type razor, still no luck, it just would not give a decent shave. I ended up purchasing another cheap DE razor from amazon, gave it a try, and first pass, guess what, success! The original shave factory piece of crap has been resigned to the bin, so one to avoid if your starting out.
And thanks again for the advice.
Good news! And thanks again for the advice.
After many years of collecting vintage razors, the best shave, by a zillion miles, for me, comes from the Gillette 'Tech' razors - as seen here:

Readily available on Ebay.
I haven't had my Amazon order yet, but the wife surprised me with a Parker R89 for Valentine's
Popped out and got some blades for it, and have just had my first DE shave.
Not as close as my Mach 3 Power, but I think that's just down to my technique. Nicked myself a couple of times on the left side of my neck (whilst shaving with my right hand), so practise is definitely required.
However, now I have the Parker, and the EJ is on the way, what do I do? Do I return the EJ, or is this the start of my razor collecting journey?

Is anyone able to suggest a good brush to start off with? There's a huge variation even just from Kent brushes they range rom a few £ to over £100

That's more of a firm cream/softish soap. This stuff does the bizz, tub should last two or three months....
A lot of people find that the Proraso cream in a tube is a lot more user-friendly.
Okay, so I had been using Derby blades which came free with my Edwin Jagger razor. I wasn't getting on too well - I'd end up with a very close shave in places, poor shave in others and lots of blood on my neck.
Today some Personna Platinum arrived and I used one. Completely different! I got a good shave with two passes and no blood anywhere.
It leaves me wondering why EJ would send out blades with their razors that will not provide an enjoyable shaving experience.
