I need some new shaving soap, whats the best you guys have used? Love Sandalwood so one in that flavour would be ideal.

Flavour?

Do you eat it?
If so you're doing it wrong.

Taylor of Old Bond Street sandalwood soap is delightful, and not too expensive.

Can I be a complete heretic and confess that I've largely ditched all the DE stuff that I have so strongly supported over the years? I subscribed to Shavekit last summer and find it to be the best shave I've ever had, with the longest-lasting blades I've yet come across. Fantastic.

Taylor's 'Jermyn Street Collection' is what I've used for years. Great soap.

Although they are just a load of marketing bullst with their blades being exactly the same as those you can get much cheaper in Lidl and Aldi etc.

I did like their face scrub and moisturiser though...

Another fan of Sandalwood here. Both Taylors (hard and tube) and Trumpers are very good. Trumpers has the edge on smell but costs more. I managed 5yrs on a bottle of the skin food.

My wife bought me some Taylor's Sandalwood Shampoo and it is really pleasant so I decided to experiment trying a bottle of Trumpers in coconut. What a disappointment, 3 x expensive and hardly any lather or aroma.

Nope, not me. I have just standard sized balls.

Since Christmas I've been growing a fairly short beard, and found the DE to be almost impossible to get the smooth edges I'd like - so I've been popping into the local Kurdish barber for a shavette trim every few days.

That's getting boring (and he's not actually that good!) at £6 a pop.

Other half has just done a pretty decent job with my DE at home, but still not as good as the one I had from a superb barber (unfortunately not easy for me to get to, and £15!) - which I what I'd like to achieve. Said barber has told me he doesn't bother trying to edge his own beard, as it's essentially impossible to get it symmetrical.

So, I'd like to get a straight/shavette for the Mrs to learn with, on my face...

Any hints/tips/suggestions for kit? Have all the accoutrements for DE shaving, so think it'd be a shavette or straight (straight being easier due to the curved corners?), then strop?

Here's her attempt from today:

So, aim is a smooth curve into the goatee, plus neck.

Cheers!

Does anyone want my old razor? (I think it's this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06Y3ZWNWK/ref=sspa_dk...

I don't use it any-more and sure someone could benefit. I have a ton of varying blades too, so can throw them in, as well as a brush (although, used?!) and some foam and a little stand.

Do you know what... if that's a genuine offer then I'll take you up on it...
I've been reading this thread for years, but never quite "got it"

Still using a Wilkinson Sword Protector 3d... maybe you might convert me!!

Of course it's genuine! It's just gathering dust at my place. PM me your address and I'll get it out to you this week. I just throw all I've got in a box, brush and all, your call if you use or bin it.

I've not had a clean shave for 6 months, tend to just trim it or let it grow out a bit. It was all a bit of a faf to me anyway, so will stick to mach3's twice a year!

I’ve run out of Mach 3 blades and have decided to join the DE band wagon

Would anyone care to comment on the Edwin Jagger DE starter kit? Is it a good starter kit or would I be better off doing it another way? I obviously don’t know what I’m doing and the choice is bewildering but I like the idea of having an E.J. and if all the other stuff in the kit is half decent and good value it is at least a complete starter kit.

My skin seems somewhat sensitive and my facial hair growth is glacial and patchy so I’m hoping that I can ditch the perfunctory twice-weekly cartridge shave and establish a ritual I can enjoy.

EJ is good stuff, but crikey, that's a lot of dosh!
Just get the razor, brush and a decent cream/soap. Maybe an alum block and/or styptic pencil.

Go for the (women's) creams/potions/smellies if you need them, once you've got used to shaving properly.

I wouldn't say it's expensive - not the cheap end of the market, but for a full kit it's pretty reasonable...

This, for sure.
