you could probably knock one up yourself pretty easily out of a "Sandstone" block if you can find some. Usually you can find sandstone blocks at salvage yards etc.

Hammer and chissel will take lumps out easily, angle grinder to tidy it up, carve what you like then give it a blast with a pressure washer to age it.
That's absolutely genius Andy, Cheers for that!

apparently, painting yoghurt (presumably live) on stone makes it get lichen and stuff and age quicker

We could machine you something out of a worktop "cast granite" type material. We make outdoor signs that look like granite..

I've had prop headstones made for a set. The prop makers used thick polystyrene sheets cut to size, sprayed grey with the inscription written in black. They probably used a hot knife to indent the inscription then written over with black pen. These were cheap versions for background shots at night shot and not for close-ups. I can't imagine they took more than a couple of hours each to make.

We also had a few more realistic ones for closer background shots and I seem to recall they were made by the same method as above but with fibreboard glued to the front of the headstone, painted the same colour with a convincing inscription effect painted on.

Both types were 'aged', probably with tea or something similar, and some climbing plants were placed in front.

I'm surprised someone hasn't mentioned this yet, is your name Pugsley and your dad's name Gomez by any chance?

Joking aside, this does sound just a tad odd.

Before you go ahead is this just his idea of a joke and you haven't got it yet? Does he really mean a grave stone or does he mean something more aptly described as a monument?

There is a monument/grave somewhere in the UK to a big fish (if you know where post it on here, I can't remember!) ... seriously... perhaps a copy of this would be better as a talking point?

Maybe you could get him some gnomes dressed as undertakers to stand either side of the tombstone

Obviously it's fake, but it's full size and may be a little less ghoulish for it.
