My uncle has an audible pain generator connected to his home alarm system. It isn't the sub-sonic type that councils use to disperse loitering children from street corners etc. It appears to be a high powered piezoelectric siren that seriously causes pain!.

I experienced it once when he first got it and I cannot imagine any intruder staying in the house for longer than it takes to find the nearest exit and even though I knew the house well, it took what seemed like ages for me to get my bearings and head for the door. yikes

I have no clue where he got it, or if it is even legal in this country or in the US where he lives, but it is very effective and non lethal...unless you trip and break your neck trying to rush out of the house.hehe

I did a quick google to see if I could find anything similar to what he had and this is the closest I could find except that his system was mains powered and had multiple sirens.

Probably a custom built set up, but sounds like a good idea all the same

I wonder how much of a visual deterrent is would be having a minimally visual 'laser grid' on all of the points of entry in your house?

Something like this which shone across windows and doorways?

I think this might be a bad idea TBH, the average thief will see that as a no-no, but might tell his high tec thief mate, who will vue your house as having something worth protecting

Would it be illegal to fit one of these sentry guns into every room in your house... etc.
Imagine the earache you'd get from the OH after she gets up in the middle of the night to point pussy at the porcelain only to find herself in the middle of something akin to a battle scene from Star Wars.

hehe

Just a regular siren is enough to empty a house of people.

They need to change the laws in the UK, there should be no such thing as an illegal weapon, or too much force when you are defending yourself.
yes

Any force is reasonable against a home invader, as you will be in fear of your life.

A really loud siren (130dB +) at ear height by each entry to the house would be a surprisingly good legal deterrent.

Or

Get a gun licence and a completely legal gu/cabinte etc.
Also get an 'unrecorded' handgun which must be in working order and contain ammunition. Never touch it with bare hands and keep it in a seale poly bag.

You get burgled, you shoot them with your legal, registered gun.
You then carefully (while wearing latex gloves) put the other gun into the hand of the corpse.

Self-defence innit! smile

I know i would end up in trouble if i ever got the upper hand over someone in that situation. I would want to make doubly sure they were not going to be a further risk to me. I have seen to many films where the bad guy gets back up hehe

You have never shot someone have you?. Experienced police officers have been reduced to emotional wrecks even after a legitimate shooting while on duty. I once saw an FBI agent I knew sobbing days after killing a bank robbery suspect.

just imagine the crook was going to rape your family AND you, whist you're all tied up and unable to do a thing if you haddent ended him.

that should solve any feelings of guilt/remorse

The armed bank robbery suspect was running towards the FBI agent across an open car park, and ignored repeated orders to drop his weapon. Should be enough to remove any feelings of guilt on the part of the agent, but it still destroyed him.

But then he may have just been a softy, despite his intensive training in the use of deadly force, and not as hard as the average homeowner that has just stumbled downstairs half asleep in his pants. thumbup
