I might be being a bit simple here, but shouldn't it still be "I've got good news AND bad news"? (Your cat is alive and your cat is dead.) It's not "or", if it were, his thought experiment wouldn't be revolutionary at all. hehe

The joke is that "I've got good news and bad news" is the accepted phrase, as otherwise someone would say "I have some bad news" or "I have some good news!". Shroedinger is saying he has good or bad news depending on how the famous thought experiment resolves itself. Although I understand your point about the fact that, prior to resolution, it is both. smile

"Your cat is still alive" isn't really news; so maybe he should be saying "There's a 50% chance I've got some news." No news is good news! (Unless she didn't like her cat in the first place...)
