What's this 'winter' you speak of? wink
Maybe that's why handguns are banned in UK. Too many overcoats for fast draws wink

At a UK gun club, where do you conduct firearms maintenance since you cannot take the gun home? Is there a separate area for breakdown and cleaning?
If you are referring to guns we may not take home by law, then yes, in my experience, a cleaning area is provided.

^ But it is a lot easier to have a gun safe at home and take your guns home.

Why's he left it cocked?

No magazine, 1911s are designed to be carried like that. However safety is off. It's probably empty and he's been playing with it right out of the shop in the car.

Can't argue with that bargain, but I'll add to it.

This is my daughter's ex-duty weapon, Glock 17 9x19 which I bought from OCSO (mainly for sentimental reasons) for the princely sum of $200 - and that included 3 magazines and the carry case

After posting the 1911 I looked the price up on Cabelas and they're listed $900-$1000. A lot of money. I recently saw a video somewhere of an Italian bespoke firearms manufacturer that produce double barreled 1911's.

A glock 17 for $200, bargain of the century. You cannot find a hi point for that money.

Being an ex duty pistol, do some of them come without a safety?
confused Glocks have a trigger safety.

The only 'active safety' is the trigger safety - otherwise it's ready to fire as soon as you chamber a round. Obviously, she carried it with a locking holster - not really practical for CCW.

I use a Tagua tactical inside waistband polymer holster which affords excellent trigger coverage - not that I carry it much - it's a little too bulky.

Some ones. I've seen them. May have been a special order requested by a police department or after market however I have seen them there are blocks with external manual safety levers.
