...So I keep a few tescos / various other supermarket used carrier bags in my store cupboard...I am sure most do the same....

Anyhow, went to use a couple of bags for my footy boots and was surprised to see what looked like dried coconut shavings / candle wax like flakes.

Odd.

Upon further investigation, they appeared to be remains of tesco's carrier bags (the flakes were white).

Bloody great mess as well.

That's not how it'd degrade anyway.

It's probably the off cuts from the hole punches.

Too right they're biodegradable, sometimes you're lucky to get the shopping home before they fall apart.

I was going to buy a bag for life, but didn't feel ready to make that kind of commitment.

Yep, whatever they make them out of causes them to do this now. I had a couple make a mess in my boot. frown

It is how they degrade.
At least, that's exactly the same as I've experienced a few times.

They degrade by falling into smaller pieces?

I had something stored in my wardrode in a Tesco bag. It was in there less than 12 months and the damn bag disintergrated. I ended up hoovering thousands of tiny pieces of plastic out of the wardrobe.

So yes. They are. furious

Yep. Touch them and they just turn to dust.

The carrier bags, which are designed to break down within three years, leave behind tiny plastic particles that could harm birds, insects and mammals.

It's Tesco. There's no second 's'.

They had might as well rebrand, likewise with Asdas and Lidls.
Unless of course you mean tesco's or asda's, which is where the confusion lies.

The original context does not require a possessive apostrophe.
Yes it does. They're bags belonging to Tesco.

Well after getting some things out of storage, where they've been since November 2009 I can confirm that yes, they are very biodegradable

Whilst I worked at Tesco they tried out varioustypes of bags. Some of the ones that were meant to be environmentally friendly fall apart when you put your shopping in so they often tweaked them

There will prob be lots of different varieties out there.
