I get that ice melts into water, but didn't see why that was funny and assumed there was something more to it that I was missing.

Well, for me personally (although I wasn't the person who asked the question), I get that ice melts into water, but didn't see why that was funny and assumed there was something more to it that I was missing.

Without wishing to labour the joke...it is a little off the wall, but it was the fact that he instantly poured the wine for the lady, but rather than use water from the tap (used to make the ice in the first place) the waiter rather gave him ice...and then watched with him as the ice melted. A voila you have a glass of water. I found it funny...it is the sort of stupid thing I would do...
