He stood on the steeple,
And pissed on the people,
But the people couldn't piss on him.....

And the bit when he shot out the instrument gauge still has me laughing out loud in public when I read it (about 8 times now). Last time was with my wife whilst skiing in romania , I tried to explain it to her but she just looked at me like I was weird.

Chickenhawk is my desert island discs book.

After reading Apache, Hellfire and Apache dawn Immediate response seemed like badly written drivel, i only got half way through before i stopped reading. That's just my opion though.

Mmm not sure about that.Upon recommendation in this forum several years ago I downloaded the pdf of said tome and found it little different from,

as mentioned by a previous poster,a Sven Hassel novel. Some of Mr Hassel's books are pretty good though.

Legionnaire is very good - autobiography of a young English lad who joined the French Foreign legion in the 60s.
There is a similar book written by a young US soldier (? marine) in Indochina and was seconded to the FFL - desperately trying to remember the name of the book.... can anybody help

For Queen and Country by Nigel Ely is quite good and hasnt been mentioned already.

Starts off as a young Para in the 70's, gets shipped off to the Falklands, joins the SAS then ends up as a private security contractor for oil tankers in the gulf. His accounts of the the IRA troubles, assualt on Goose Green and SAS selection are quite detailed
