High pitch noise outside?
Discussion
Sorry to bump this 5 year old thread, but it was the first thing I saw on Google when I searched for "high pitched ringing outside."
Anyway, I'm hearing something similar every so often from outside. I can hear it even with the windows shut, so it must be close. Not for a few seconds, but it can go on for about a couple of hours. There's an industrial estate nearby and this noise seems to occur in the evening or at weekends. Is it possible it's some kind of intruder alarm?
By the way, I'm 29 and my hearing is not the best thanks to many heavy metal gigs without earplugs, so can't be some sort of anti-chav deterrent, Shirley?

The first thing to do is discount tinnitus then!Anyway, I'm hearing something similar every so often from outside. I can hear it even with the windows shut, so it must be close. If you've discounted that, it's very difficult to trace the source, can be industrial-sized anti-loitering/anti-fox kit, private pest deterrents, radio transmitting equipment, wifi networks, resonating electrical equipment/elements etc. etc.
